Totally agree! The AJE art design is a masterpiece, it's colourful, it looks great but isn't cluttered at all. Of course an AACW map has to "feel" differently than a Roman era map but still, I I think the AACW map feels a bit cluttered. Compare it for example to the RUS map which doesn't look as nice as the AACW map but where it is also a lot easier to determine rail lines, terrain type etc. Just because: less is often more!

When you say 2013 do you mean January ? ;) LOL

Seriously, I believe the merger makes sense and hope it works out well, for everyone involved!

Just to flag - as AACW2 along with NCP2 are the AGEOD games I've been drooling for. If you need any beta testers for AACW2 then I'd be more than happy to participate.

Welcome both!
and is merging with Slitherine and Matrix!
Yes, you heard it, we have managed to form this triangle of wargaming expertise.
, with Matrix now a partner, we will be able to supply a full boxed copy of all our games.
Next a square with http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ :D

In future the plan is to incorporate the Matrix system to allow unlimited downloads and installs as often as you like

Plimus? It has changed its name for http://www.bluesnap.com/, maybe for many had told Plimus was not so secure (it may had been hacked and asked money for nothing).
Anyway, what's this Matrix protection (I never bought there for now): Ageod games will be DRMed?

AACWII is a must buy for me. I consider just the news of it an early Christmas present!

Too bad it has to involve Matrix Games. Over the years I've come to regard them as the Elephant's Graveyard of wargames; the place where old, unsupported games go to die (and earn a few more $$). Since this is an AGEOD game, though, I know it will be innovative, based on a sound understanding of history and supported by the active AGEOD forums. So, great news, a big Thank You and best of luck in your merger.

Great news about the merger. While I don' know much about Slitherine, I've been following various games and projects of Matrix (was at a time a beta for a still ongoing, long overdue I should say, project) since the Steel Panthers days. As long as Ageod remains Ageod this should be an interesting and profitable partnership...

Good news.
Especially corporation with Slitherine. They have very good pbem server system and it is very easy to use. This will prevent any cheating in games and make it more easy to find games. Hope older games will also be compatible with server system.

Good news :) AACW2 hopefully will be my dream-come through ACW game. With the elegance, detail and polish of current AACW but with the raiding and garrison system snatched from GGWBtS (or something similar, to reduce the unnecessary micromanagement) :)

suggestion for AACW 2 : change in the production, the system of RUS is better (choose the city where the units appears)
the way the units comes on the map is the one thing i don't like in AACW.

With matrix, it depends on the developer. Some developers give fantastic support, and keep the games updated and improved. Others do not. But Ageod will be doing its own support, and the Phils would never abandon one of their games and leave it in a graveyard.

Great new!

PLZ don't stop the game with diplomati and PON style (or less complexe), it's really fun, remake is good (I bought one recently ^^), but I prefere new game because with patch your games not really stop to ugrade. And with new game the Ageod one day you cover all war ^_^.

About the DRM thing, we have a serial key at Ageod. Matrix is also using a serial key, but only within their installer I believe. So no big change, whenever it will come (and I don't know for now!)

Super excited about this. :) I'm excited to be getting back into the Civil War after a long hiatus. Any preliminary idea on a release timetable? Sometime during 2013? This Christmas? ;) Sorry if someone else has asked..

Just a quick question, it would be a biweekly turn like the previous one? (If so you have already my money, seriously!)

Great potential to improve the best Civil War game ever. Looking forward to purchasing it on day one.

Also agree with gchristie that more control over battles, or at least the option, would be a great addition. Nothing wrong with "wishing upon a star."

I have some suggestions. The map for AACW is gorgeous, but very "busy" and hard to interpret at a glance. The map for AJE is a beautiful work of art, and much easier to understand. Could the graphics of the new Civil War game reflect more from the AJE game than its own predecessor?

Also, The Shenandoah Valley was a critical area in the real war that never seemed to be very well represented in AACW. If the passes in and out of the valley were relevant in AACW I could never tell. Could they be clearly delineated in AACW2?

I was just thinking last night that a new edition of this game including all the advances you guys have made is a no-brainer. Thanks again!

Speaking of UI, although I have not seen the game you are talking about, that is an issue that comes up often.

The problem that creates that, and the problem with correcting that is partly learning curve.

In any UI, people learn 'the system' in use, so what looks busy to someone used to a different set up, or new to a game, looks informative to someone that has learned to see all the information areas.

The best way to address that is with layers, where a person can turn off different 'types of information' and then turn them on as they get used to the specific game layout. If you play a game long enough, many multiple icons in the same hex can look completely clear, but to someone new it would look cluttered.

Also most games have a panel on bottom, by adding a more in depth thinner panel on the side, that can be opened and closed, and even tabbed for multiple sets of information, you can get much more data displayed, without having to have it displayed always, someone can close it during looking at the big picture, and expand it for any micromanagement.

I know what you mean by busy graphics, and agree that can be tiresome, if you have to think, about what you are seeing, not about what you are seeing means, it can 'take you out of the game experience' like when you see something in a movie that does not match continuity.

However less busy, often means less information in the long run, so sometimes it is better to allow user options on what is displayed with a quick toolbar or hot key, or some system like layers that can remain on and be overlapped. That allows for a 'learning curve' to the visual information system.

Anyways, figured I would add some thoughts, since I have thought about that concept often also.

And I should be being paid for this type of thinking, but heh, what else is new. :)

Yes the game will stay with 14-days turn.

As for the UI, we are making significant efforts to improve it, plus we try to have these 2 layers of information you speak about.
