Thu Oct 25, 2012 11:49 am

Hi had this ctd (second time at exactly the same point). I've just added the 1.03a patch but managed to run the earlier turn with no problems. Logs and save files attached.

Can I add there is also a small bug about the ownership of Massawa. I captured it about 18 months back, have full MC and its now a colony but still is bravely flying the Ottoman flag - the harbour in the province keeps on claiming it is still Ottoman.

apols to chuck this in but if someone could have a look at that too then that would be wonderful

many thanks

I'll check the issue, give me a few days perhaps.

I am also getting the same error message when I end turn. This is the crash I referred to in the 1.03a thread. After this message, the game crashes to the desktop after a few seconds.

The issue appears severe and people should for now on revert to 1.03 until it is fixed (backup your game 2 turns to get back where you were in 1.03).

None of you is using a mod right, just to be sure, as some data in the current saves are ... weird.

thanks for looking at this - but to confirm, no mods, no changes to the save game sequence etc

Here is an updated PON.EXE that should fix the problem, if you restart from a previous 1.03 saved game. If this goes well as I think, it will make into a 1.03b quickfix.

Sorry for the trouble, as I had some extra data on my computer, the previous EXE was working... but not for you.

If some brave soul can tell me if this is going well, then thanks. And remember, you should not use a file altered by 1.03a

Hello Pocus,
Ok I am playing the campaign game vs my friend, we both have the quick fix 1.03a....and as the host I did not have the issue of a CTD. That said we have done 5 turns in our game and therefore no way to go back to an original file 1.03 turn. Now what should we do? Since I have not had this type CTD go forward and install this 1.03b hotfix?
After a number of days and weeks of few turns we are now moving faster...we are almost to 1859.

I recieve this message:

thank you for giving up your saturday. Have tested this over 2 turns (from the clean 1.03 save) and it works fine ... I maybe being delusional (or simply playing PoN with a glass of wine to hand) but it seems a little bit faster?

Okay, Pocus, I was able to load a pre 1.03a save game.

I ended turn on late jan, 1882, and it worked fine.

I ended turn on early Feb, 1882, and it worked fine.

I ended turn on late Feb, 1882, and I got the same error message, and it crashed.

It is not fixed. Late Feb, 1882, is where it crashed before.

Any ideas?

Loki, you might want to try ending the third turn. My first two turns went fine, but when I ended the third turn, I got the same error message, and it crashed. I also loaded from the clean 1.03 save.

I have run twice a new GC 6 turns in a row and no crash. I would need a save with backups, because I must see what happens when the save get corrupted, in your file loki100, the damage is already done.

Sadly also, I depart in 1h30 for 5 days and will have only a laptop without PON on it so unless you give me a save within 60 mn it will have to wait for my return before my main computer.

PS: you are super sure you used the latest EXE I gave to run these turns??

many thanks for still looking at this.

The exe. is dated to 27/10, which matches when I downloaded the rar, so I *hope* I have but when I check one file it still shows as 1.03?

I've attached all the first two of the save sequence - backup #3 is the 'clean' 1.03 save before I added 1.03a, so back up #2 is the first with the patch and runs into back up #1 in the file above

hi again,

A few mn before leaving by train...

Even backup3 has already the data whose origin is still not understood by me. Please try this 1.03b, with an EXE that should not generate any more new unwanted data. For current game, it should be able to purge wrong data (you'll get a few errors message, just approve and don't quit).

Hopefully, you should not get new error messages on subsequent turns, if yes, then I'll have to re inspect everything Saturday or Sunday, sorry won't be able before for PON (I'll be able to keep up on AJE though)

thank you for bothering so much over this - at the very worst I have a save from 1868/9 so I can always revert back to that

have a good trip

Pocus, thank you for being so timely and responsive to this problem. Loki, than you for getting the save games to Pocus so quickly.

This is the very best game company forum, without a doubt!

Alas, Pocus, I tried 1.03b. After I ended the first turn, I got the same error message. I waited as you instructed, and it crashed to the desktop.

I've tried it with two saves - the possibly corrupted early Nov 1870 one, that ran to the resolution of the late dec 1870 turn and failed. I then tested a feb 1868 turn I had (which I'd last played on 17 october) and that failed after two turns.

When I get the chance, I'll try a clean start 1850 game and just run 4-5 turns. That may help understand if its something in my save files or something on my PC (though so far PoN has been very stable with only very occassional renderer problems or crashes which never replicated).

edit - I won't spam this with comments but just to say I quickly ran about 8 turns of a new GC with the 1.03b patch and there were no problems - all I did was to press next turn, so I don't think the problem is inherent to the quickfix.

ok, nice piece of infos... so a clean GC don't get corrupted save, this was my experience... please people can you post here a save that will fail, or has failed, with backups? I'll check that upon my return.

What is the messages you get with 1.03b? Something about an agent definition not found, with a value like 100760 ?

thank you again, but yes I had no problems at all with a fresh start.

The two files attached are the last of a sequence that crashes (backup and the turn that fails). The message is as in the first post & mentions a 'critical error', it then completes the loading and turn processing with the actual CTD occuring when you would expect to see the information in the message log file. This is probably irrelevant, but I think the message fires as it appears to be loading the orders for France.

Not sure if i'm helping but, I was getting the same message loki was getting. I unistalled PON then did a fresh install, installed 103 and 103b. Left out the ACW and 1880 addons and the fixes that go with them. Launced PON with a saved game and got 3 error messages you seem to refer to, Pocus. Missing agent definitions with the numbers you mention. Then it sayed then game is slowing, do i want to quit or continue and please contact the support team. I selected 'Yes' for continue and the turn ran to completion and has continued for 2 turns with no problems since. I didn't think to copy the error reports, I'm out with the flu today and the medicine has me a little foggy. Sorry. Plenty of time on my hands today if i need to try and recreate or post a save.

what jsgtnby is referring too is what I expected from 1.03b when the code was fixing the error, i.e the mention of a missing agent, with a number... but here there would be no crash, as the code was clearing the erroneous data (seems to be 3 erroneous data when you get a problem)... Once you pass this bump (3 error messages but no crash), then you should be safe, as him, as the data are fixed.

What I don't get is that some of you continue crashing with the new EXE...

Pocus, I tried loading a save game two turns earlier. I was able to end turn successfully twice. No error messages. But once I tried to end turn on the third turn, it gave me the same error message at the top of this thread, and crashed.

And the game confirms that 1.03b had been successfully installed prior to my doing this, as this is the version number that shows at the bottom of the screen once the game has loaded.

Thank you. I do not know of any other company that even comes close to Ageod in supporting its products.
