Turn 25 Early April 1862

The enemy force at Alexandria has a power of about 800. Not sure if that is enough to make any kind of concentrated attack South. Enemy cavalry appears to be scouting Fredricksburg. Walker will be moving up to Fredricksburg with a full division. I'm sure my opponent can not see Walker or my forces at Richmond. Smith will for sure move on Leesburg for the terrain and MTSG advantage there. He will be joined by a full division led by General Alexander. Jackson will stay put for the moment as will Mcgruder. I have artillery moving towards Williamsburg to build that fort. By 1863 Richmond is going to be surrounded by a ring of steel. He can't bypass the forts easily and I'll be working within my interior lines so I think I'm in a good position. If he were for force me from Northern Virginia then I can not use the terrain to as good an advantage so best to contain the fighting there. Hence the investment in forts.

I'm not sure that Grant will be able to do much for now. He can advance through Humboldt, my center, but he can't ignore my forces on both of his flanks. I still have a fleet that can at least challenge his, plus forces entrenched on both sides of the MS river to provide bombardment. AJ is moving west to Forts Henry and Donnelson. Forney and Polk have now formed corps under the Army of TN. JJ will sit at Bowling Green with most likely only one division. Two partisan units will move North to cut rail. My cavalry will continue to keep the rail North of Bowling Green cut.

The Earl with his small force will attack the Kiowas. Earlier my Texas Ranger unit was forced to retreat. But I can at least harass my enemy here. I've got Tuscon and Denver from which to base my operations.

So far so good as far as NM, FI, and VP go.

One thing you might notice is that I'll leave weak points in the line for the enemy to advance. I'm sure he will scout my lines and go which way is easiest. If I were to try to form solid lines that have no weak points and wait for him to move he as the North could just assemblie overwhelming manpower and hit me with forces I could not turn back. If the CSA player sits back and its just reacting then the North by 1863-64 will have enough resources to overwhelm single points in the line with basically heavy losses that the CSA can not keep pace with. 1862 will not be a slow year for sure. I'll be raising the maximum amount of partisans cutting rail everwhere I can. Additionally I hope to use points in KY and WV to threaten areas in Northern territory, as well as expand my grasp on the West.

Replacements: 5 inf
Reinforcements:
GA: 2 Coastal Artillery "these are going to VA to hammer at his fleets"

when can you go for Cotton embargo again ? If memory serves me right, the events about France not offering recognition and then invading mexico fire in early 62. You would need to get to 100 before that... I would love to see and MP game with the foreign intervention activated...

I have not used my cotton embargo yet. I've been rather strapped for cash. As soon as I can afford to though I'll go for it.

Turn 26 Late April 1862

Time to bring my lone cavalry back from MD. Will try to evac the cavalry to the port in Northern Virginia. Smith is in position at Leesburg with MTSG from Longstreet and Beauregard. I've listed my approximate strengths of the larger forces in the area. Also behind the lines I've got units setting up at the very least level 4 entrenchments. Later I might move some random art in certain areas to further entrench. So even if I get pushed back from one region I'll have entrenchments. Overall I'm happy with my position here.

A Federal force moved into the Willamsburg area, but not battle ensued. Mcgruder is set to defend at all cost, and I anticipate he will will should the Federals attack. He will have artillery and supply to begin fort construction next turn.

Scratch the retreat path in Clarksburg, KY. My units retreated without a fight. They will regain strength and then go back and get their city back. I'm thinking it would be a pain for my opponent if I were able to capture Ironton with its depot. Also thinking that a depot at Prestonburg could go a long way into pinning more of the enemy down. I can attack from 3 directions North, from there, where the enemy can only come at me from one direction, and the terrain is to my advantage. Something I'll have to think about, if things get to heavy in TN I'll try to threaten the enemy from Prestonburg so he will be force to divert troops to the area.

Stupid enemy fleet kept A.J. from crossing the river to Forts Henry and Donnelson, though I'm happy with the hits the enemy fleet took. He can't keep taking that for long. Forney managed to beat back Grant. I've got good terrain "Forrest" and entrenchment there. So I don't think Forney will move unless he is outnumbered three to one.

The Earl took the Kiowas, and it won't stop there. I'm sending some infantry to take another town in the area, and once I have some sort of supply and good weather the Earl shall start making inroads in the West. Waties indians will be coming up from the south to scout positions and hopefully to make my opponent think I'm going to be attacking from two sides.

Grant's attack against Forney fails.

Replacements: 1 inf, 1 cav, 1 supply
Reinforcements:
KY: 2inf cav brigade
VA: 2inf SS brigade
AR: 2 10lb art

1 hq 12lb art

Investment: 10 rail

Really need to get more artillery into Missouri and the only way is via Arkansas and next from Texas.

Turn 27 Early May 1862

Only a small cavalry skrimish in the East otherwise all quiet. Mcgruder holds at Williamsburg and fort construction has commenced. I'm also moving up two coastal artillery, one for Norfolk and the other for Suffolk. Hopefully start making it more costly for his ships to come in the area. I really wouldn't want a large force anchord outside of Richmond and Petersburg. Stuart is taking his forces into West Virginia and will start trying to hit small forces that I think I an annihilate. I reinforced Winder with a 3 regiment brigade so I don't see my position in Grafton going away. Stuart will be able to resupply there and I forsee a successful campaign season for him.

Partisans cutting rail. Some movement in West Virginia and Eastern Kentucky. Stuart is holding strong with a full division. Only thing he is lacking is a sharpshooter which I'll be bringing up in about 3 turns.

I don't see Grant making any headway too soon so I'm sending Forrest towards Lousiville, KY. J.J. will move his Army to one region North of Bowling Green and possibly move on Louisville. My opponent seems to be occupied by Stewart in Lexington. Overall things are going well in this theatre.

Stewart defeats Don Carlos Buell in Lexington, KY.

Price as always holds his ground. Hindman is going to force march to Lexington, MO this turn too. this turn. Price can hold the line where he is it seems. Watie and his Indians will take the harbor north of Lexington.

Replacements: 2 inf, 2 cav
Investments: 20 rail

Off map my blockade runners are bringing in over $20 and/or 20 WS per turn. I've got some units moving in the West from Denver, making inroads into Iowa. Also, I opted to embargo cotton, so see if this helps. FI is sitting at 77.

Turn 28 Late May 1862

Mcgruder holds against a much larger force at Williamsburg. The fort will be complete in 11 days. Nothing new in Northern Virginia as I'm not planning any offense there nor is my opponent making any moves. Stuart is still staging for attacks in to West Virginia, waiting for the mud to clear. Semmes lost another naval battle at the cost of one gunboat and 1NM. Bee's division still sits in reserve at Petersburg. If I have to send him South for any coastal incursions, I'll probably include Jackson as the leader, just so I can kill a beachead before my opponent gets a good foothold.

CSA lines look strong in Western TN, with my corps within MTSG, good terrain, and entrenchments dug. Forrest is going to go harass the enemy in KY for a while. JJ will hang around Bowling Green until I get some more forces in the area. He has one division with him so I'm weak in this area. However, my opponent is not making any headway in this area either. Buchanan had no luck engaging an enemy fleet so he is going back to Memphis.

Hindman failed in his forced march and went inactive too. Still I will push on to Lexington. Watie will go take Bloomington and work the area cutting rail. He and his indians can live off the land for the most part. Quatrail will form a small partisan force to further harass the enemy. Also off map I've got two 10lb artillery and one 12lb artillery moving towards Springfield. Right now Hindman has no artillery, so this will be a welcome addition to his forces when he can meet up with them.

The backwoods of the West is seeing some action, mostly in my favor. I've got enough areas to keep supply there now, so now my forces can become more of a pain. I managed to get a 2inf SS brigade into Denver. The Texas Ranger Brigade will go to Omaha city, while the infantry currently there takes Souix City. The Earl is going to attack Fort Laramie, with the intent to just inflice casualties. Ultimately I would like to get Council Bluffs, but not strong enough yet.

Mcgruder held against a much superior force. He does have 4 columbiads in his division, so that might have helped. Also the opposing force had command penalties still. Terrain and entrenchment were in my favor too. If need be I'll bring another division into the area, but I think I'm doing fine with just the one.

Replacements: 2 inf, 2 cav

This historical attrition is really a serious drain on my replacements. Money is short, but I'm always short on replacements too. Hopefully my forces don't start bleeding too bad, cause then life will get real rough.

Turn 29 Early June 1862

Stuart will do a little skirmishing in West Virginia. Semmes will make an attack against the enemy fleet outside Norfolk, especially since I now have two coastal artillery in the areat to soften up the enemy fleet. I've got 4inf 6lb art brigade heading to the fort at Williamsburg.

Partisans are coming back in for resupply. Three regiments of cavalry will attack Clarksburg and hopefull take it. Forrest is going to make a probing attack at Cincinatti. AJ is moving back to Bowling Green. There is a large buildup of enemy forces in Columbus, KY, so thinking I'm going to detach a division from JJ to reiforce my line in Western TN. Also, off map is one regiment of infantry which will take Charleston, WV.

See the large troop buildup. I'm expecting the attack at Humboldt so will most likely pull a division from JJ to reinforce that area, and possibly pull a division from Bragg's Corp, since the fort can hold if I'm forced back from there. A single cavalry regiment will retake Charleston, MO.

Hindman will assualt Lexington. I've detached the supply wagon to join with Hindman so he has supply to push into Kansas. Price doesn't really need it anyway. Partisans are cutting rail as usual. Off map Watie and his indians are heading North after taking Bloomington to cut more rail.

This is about the only battle of significance this round. Enemy routed taking 9 hits. The Earl will go back to Denver to resupply.

Turn 30 Late June 1862

The East is turning out to be a rather static front. Stuart is taking some action but that is about it. He won a small battle, but it was to be expected, so he will cut some rail and harrass that lone brigade again. Semmes managed to break out of Norfolk and will make his way to Richmond.

Forrest won a battle at the port West of Lexington, but he retreated. My losses were a little more and I think the victory should have gone to my opponent. Not sure how the battle logic works sometimes. Forrest is now hanging tight with Stewart. I've diverted almost all my manpower to Western TN, so my center at Bowling Green is beyond weak. Partisans will resupply and cut more rail. I have a brigade at Clarksburg digging in. A three cavalry group will start to hit units along the border that are trying to repair rail.

I've attached the approximate number of men with my corps in the area. I thought an attack would for sure come at Humboldt, but it didn't. Now his forces are back in Paducah and he has a cavalry scouting Forts Henry and Donnelson. I'm thinking that might be his objective. I have AJ's Army inside the fort with Bragg's small corps outside. I think I'm going to hold what I've got, the only thing that worries me is that my opponent might do a river landing at Nashville. It would be risky, but it would fall. I'm hoping its still in the fog of war and he can't see my dispositions there.

Hindman did not do so well. However, the supply wagon caught up with him. However, I am going to force march him South to Springfield. Things could get messy there and soon. I do have two 10lb and one 12lb artillery coming up to Springfield. Price is not receiving replacements as fast as he should or maybe its the attrition. Jefferson City appears undefended so I might get lucky and can burn the depot or maybe not.

Here is the battle at Lexington. I thought it would be an easy victory, but this was not the case.

bollocks.. I don't remember having watched a competitive AAR with Foreign Intervention, it would have made for an exciting what if, with french involvement in the transmississippi or tennesse theater, as well as british involvement from Canada or with the main CSA armies...

Ah well, this game still is very exciting and I look forward to your valiant but now probably doomed fight for survival !

Turn 31 Early July 1861

I still have a few more years for FI. So far I'm in a good position for 1862. I don't really see any areas where he can make a major breakthrough. A coastal attack with significant force would probably be his best chance. For the time being I don't have any objective cities or land to take, but more or less watching his movements and just trying to bleed him out. Things like out in the far West, I'm doing really well and those units of his are taking replacements that could be used in a major theatre. I do want a little more territory in Missouri and Kansas, so if I can get Hindman in action there then I can see that happening. He will be concentrated on Price and Springfield, MO.

Somehow I get the feeling that he tried to cross the river South of Richmond, but my fleet blocked it I think. Anyways, keeping my fleet out there because if he did make a landing and took Petersburg or built a depot there, then it could be problematic. Lee is going to stay there in Richmond until I get him an Army HQ built. Then I will move Longstreet down to take charge of a corps. Longstreet and Jackson will both form under Lee, but for the time being I'll keep in at Richmond for my best defense there. My lines in Northern Virginia are good, and I could probably spare two divisions from there once I get some more artillery in place.

Stuart is going to make his way into the two WV towns to catch lone units. The one at Charleston should be weak, so easy pickings. Maybe I'll get lucky and can hit Ironton. A nice CSA division parked there would be nice. Forrest and Stewart have a significant force at Lexington, so hopefully that keeps the attention of my opponent for a while until I can build up another force at Bowling Green. Other than that just doing some rail cutting with cavalry and partisans.

Sending some cavalry to Clarksville to hopefully keep it so the enemy can't get any good intel on Nashville. Sending one cavalry to cut the rail North of Cairo.

Price is still hanging on to his region. Hindman will be getting some artillery this round which should make him a little tougher to deal with. Hopefully able to assault and take some cities now. Good thing he isn't trying to outflank me as Price would have to move back to Springfield. So far head on attacks have not worked well for my opponent.

With a little luck the Earl will be able to rout the federal force in Denver and at Fort Laramie. Should be easy pickings.

Just one of the more significant battles this turn.

Reinforcements:
AL: 2inf-6lb art-cav brigade
TN: (4) 4inf-6lb art-cav brigade
SC: (4) 2inf-6lb art brigade
FL: 4 militia
MO: 4 cav
KY: 1 cav

I noticed a cavalry regiment was raised "to react to the enemy in Florida" last turn. Not sure what is up with that, but none the less raised some militia and then the SC brigades too. Just in case.

Turn 32 Late July 1862

Could this be another front opening, in my home state too. I sent Bragg to Tallahassee to start forming a small division. Even if he gets pushed back I've got reinforcements on the way to include the elite Tramp Brigade. I've also got a fleet of 4 ironclads on the way and will reach the area on day 32. It appears he only is planning to land a brigade, but never the less before I let a strong beach head get start I'll dispatch up to three divisions to the area before I let another front open.

Not much going on in Virginia. Jackson repelled an attack at Williamsburg, but other than that the lines have not changed and no action of any sort.

Cutting more rail as you can see. Forrest is going to assault Ironton. The intent is to either capture or destroy the depot. From there I'll use Jackson and Stuart to assault Columbus and Dayton and have my partisans destroy those two depots. Stuart's swee was successful; managing to destroy one unit at Elizabethton, and severly damaging the other unit at Charleston. He will resupply at Clarksburg, KY since he is empty on ammunition.

Not much changing here. I've got reinforcements heading towards my line, mostly consisting of 12lb artillery which should cause some good hits on defense. JJ now has a full division at Bowling Green, so not so weak as before. That is good.

Calvary are going to move to either side of Jefferson City and cut rail. Price holds his position against another attack, but he is not receiving replacements suitably, so I've moved him to defend retreat if not winning the first two rounds. I can defend at Springfield just as well, and may just fall back into entrenchments there. Hindman will move North and either go after Lexington or venture into Kansas. Offmap I've got Wating cutting rails North of Bloomington along with a lone partisan.

Turn 32 Continued

My cavalry units repelled an attack at the port South of Omaha City. As predicted the Earl cause some more casualties to the enemy with minimal losses and will assault Fort Laramie now. I'm sure the enemy units in this area will collapse and then I can send the Earl South to deal with the units around Council Bluffs. With Hindman being a threat further South I don't see my opponent being able to heavily reinforce this area. Also have an 6lb artillery which arrived at the Kiowas, so good to have some artillery in the area. The Early also earned his second star this round.

CSA Victory, and I'm sure these units will be easily mopped up by Earl Van Dorns division soon enough.

Jackson wins at the Battle of Fort Williamsburg.

CSA Victory at Fort Laramie. The remaining Federal troops should be destroyed in the next assault.

Price wins, but is extremely weak because reinforcements are not arriving quickly. I may pull him back to Springfield on this next turn, just have to think about it.

Replacements: 5inf, 2cav, 1HQ "For Lee"
Reinforcements:
FL: (3) 2inf brigades

So far things are looking good. I'm not seeing any offensive troop buildups in Northern Virginia or in Western Kentucky. There is some sort of buildup happening at Louisville, KY, but my opponent better react quick before I get a solid line established at Bowling Green and bad weather hits. So far things are looking good for the CSA

Turn 33 Early August 1862

Jackson repels another assault at Fort Williamsburg. Bee's Division is being sent to reinforce the area, as it looks like the enemy is building up there, three divisions to my one. Lee has formed and Army and will soon start building his corps with Jackson and Longstreet.

All rail links between Louisville and Bowling Green are cut, so that will help me out. Looks like my opponent has decided to move in this area. Forrest won the battle at Ironton and will stay put until a brigade moves up from Prestonburg to take the town. Stuart is going to assault the depot at Columbus and a partisan unit will be coming in to try to burn it.

The river attack on Nashville resulted in two losses for the Federal forces. My garrison held. Looks like my opponent moved from the North as well as on Nashville. For one reason or another his Army retreated from Bowling Green before a battle could start.

I lost two small battles at Tallahassee, and the city goes to my opponent. However, he only brought a small brigade. General Hood and Anderson will soon be moving on the city with two half formed divisions. Reinforcements are coming from South Carolina.

Price will move to Springfield this turn. He needs replacements badly. Hindman is going to assault Lexington where I'm hoping for a victory.

Earl Van Dorn got his third star which is good as I can free him from being a division commander to just a detached cavalry unit once I hit my division limit and need divisions elsewhere. He will continue attacking the area around Fort Laramie, killing enemy units. The Texas Ranger brigade will move on Omaha City.

First Battle of Nashville. I did lose a general that turn, with the other one injured.

Second Battle of Nashville. CSA victory again. River landings seldom go when when assaulting off the boats.

Jackson wins again at Williamsburg.

The other two infantry regiments will be destroyed next turn I hope.

cool, going quite well so far. I suppose the main danger indeed is a big fat landing in your rear expanding a new front... Your opponent seems very cautious, I suppose he is mainly building that big Bulldozer for 1863 when the pain will really start...

Hope you can get the FI to activate at some point, it would be great.

Turn 34 Late August 1862

Well I will welcome his bulldozer to my meat grinder. We will see, but by 1863 I should have a few more forts in strategic spots so its going to be painfully slow going for him. The game is going rather well and I see it playing out until one of us is defeated or until 1866 when time is up.

Ah, the Gulf Front is forming. I expect Pensacola to go next, which thats acutally my home town. Fortunatly General Bee was prevented from crossing the river North of Petersburg, VA. So he will now be redirected to Pensacola, along with a few detached brigades. Bragg and Anderson are moving in assualt on Tallahassee, along with several detached brigades. I should ovewhelm the enemy quickly there. I have ironclads approaching too. I have three ironclads outside New Orleans will make short work of his wooden fleet in Louisiana. Additionally, Buchannan is bringing his entire fleet to Pensacola. General Taylor is forming a division at New Orleans, and I'll soon reinforce the forts at the mouth of the MS River.

Hindman fails in his assault again. However, my opponent blew the depot, so on to another objective. He will move on Kansas and start to squeeze the enemy in the extreme West where my forces are doing good. Earl Van Dorn managed to defeat more enemy units. The Texas Ranger Brigade managed to annihilate one infantry regiment of the enemies. Every little bit helps. Like I say replacements feeding there are replacements that could be used in more critical areas.

Stalemate at Tallahassee, but the enemy is weakened, and next turn about 10,000 troops will be assaulting the city in multiple waves.

Nothing new in this area, though my lines are reinforced a little more each turn. It appears his offensive here has stalled for the time being.

Stuart was prevented from crossing the river, but will now turn into WV to try to destroy his small detachments. Forrest will assault Dayton. Ironton and its depot are mine so plenty of supply and ammunition for Forrest and Stuart, plus a place for them to winter when the time comes.

Turn 35 Early September 1862

Forrest's attack was unsuccessful. He will return towards Clarksburg to resupply. Stuart did not manage to annihilate any units, but hopefully he is still causing some issues for my opponent. I still have three cavalry in the area cutting rail too. Additionally two detached brigades will make their way from from KY towards West Virginia. I may come back for an assault on Ironton with Stuart and Forrest if the weather holds out. I guess I should have had them stay put as I could have held the town for sure against an attack.

Jackson holds again. I'm edging close to pulling a division from Fredricksburg to augment Jackson, but so far no major need too since he is holding well enough. The Eastern Front has been rather quiet, no major changes in the area.

I am building a depot at Island 10. Sending one cavalry North to cut rail. Augmenting JJ with some additional artillery as it seems he will be up against two corps soon. Weather will turn bad though and I'm keeping the rail North of Bowling Green cut for the most part.

Looks to be some more fighting around Omaha City. Fort Laramie will be mine soon. I have four regiments of cavalry being sent to Fort Levenworth. Hindman was successful taking Levenworth and will move on Lawrence. Captured a 12lb artillery there too. He will then attempt to take St. Josephs before deciding to send him North to Council Bluffs or to take Lexington.

The enemy is now holed up in Fort Pickens, but will soon have three divisions sieging the place. Hopefully take it and deal with that thorn in my side. The USA fleet outside of New Orleans should get destroyed either by my ironclads or fort bombardment. It is beyond weak, and probably won't even put up a fight. Buchannan will link up with the other ironclads, and might stay around New Orleans for a short time.

Turn 35 Continued

Forrest let me down on this one. However, its nice to be have the fight North instead of my own towns.

AJ's corps hold at Humboldt, TN. Its good to see I have a good array of artillery to the USA forces too in this area too. I expect my lines to hold in this area for a while at least.

I need a few more victories like this. It has me thinking I should get Longsteet in this position, since its going to be defensive fighting.

CSA victory in the Far West.

Hindman gets me Fort Levenworth, and it comes with a conscription point. So worth taking this objective.

Turn 36 Late September 1862

The Federal "Army of the James" is stacked heavily against Jackson as you can see from this shot. He is holding and doing so well with one division, but General Hoke will be sent From Fredricksburg to join Jackson. Longstreet is also enroute and will take over the defenses. I'm moving Jackson back to refit for the winter and use him as support to Longstreet or to drive back any invasions along the coast of Virginia or North Carolina. Soon I'll have a fort built in Richmond, and then on to contemplate where to place my next fort. Thinking I might need one out West, some place like Nashville for one.

Forrest is going to resupply from Lexington, KY. Stuart will attempt to get supply from the West Virginia towns. I have brigades enroute to secure them. I would be in an excellent position if I would have just consolidated my gains at Ironton, but not sure if I can get it again. I have some artillery at Clarksburg that are scoring some hits on his fleet and units he is transporting by river. Every little bit counts.

I don't see where my opponent is can launch a strong attack as witnessed by his weakened units in Western KY. So I am moving some reinforcements to Clarksville. His units are weak in that area too, but I really need to get at two star promoted and to that area to form a corps under JJ's army in Bowling Green.

I don't even think the unit at Coucil Bluffs has any cohesion left, so I'm attacking. Got four fresh cavalry units moving in as well to strengthen Earl Van Dorn's division. Hindman can be turned in that direction to if need be, but I think he will work on St. Josephs and Lexington, MO.

I lost the battle, mostly that lone infantry that took the beating. It is nice to see he only had 1,200 men to throw at me. With that and his severly weakened unit at Coucil Bluffs I think I might be in a position to take it in a turn or two.

Turn 36 Continued

Stuart routes the enemy, and they take hits, but it would be so much nicer if he could just destroy them completely. Not bad though three to one losses so it all adds up over time.

How about that CSA morale 144. Probably gives me a good edge militarily and economically which I need to make up for the numbers I just don't have in troops and ships.

Just a snap shot of my Armies thus far in the game.

Turn 37 Early October 1862

Longstreet has taken over the defenses outside of Williamsburg. McGruder has formed a corp for the garrison, but I'll soon choose where to send him so he can take charge of a more important corps. Jakson will pull back one region to start slowly assembling his corps in preparation for what is to come in 1863.

My unit that was to occupy Elizabethton retreated before a battle could take place so Stuart is not going to get the supply I had hoped for. He will go back to KY, to get supply and from there not sure, but winter will be rough in the area. Though Stuart did manage to catch a few enemy units in the area, he was just low on ammo, so no massive casualties. I am sending another brigade by river transport to try to take the city. Forrest will attack the port West of Lexington, KY.

Not sure why, but there is a lone enemy supply unit at Humboldt. Maybe I'll get lucky and capture it. The weather is good in the area, so sending cavalry North to get one round of rail cutting in before the bad weather sets in.

I think Council Bluffs will be mine next turn. Van Dorn will hold his position. He is reinforced by four fresh cavalry units and two 12lb artillery captured from the enemy. One infantry regiment is enroute to capture the city. Hindman may move on Lexington, but I may keep him in position until I find out where that enemy fleet is heading. It only has a strength of 180 so not enough to dislodge Van Dorn or Hindman if he stays at Fort Levenworth.

I know it says defeat, but I think I won that one. I managed to hold my ground outside of Fort Pickens and during the next three turns will have three divisions sieging the fort.

Turn 37 Continued

Van Dorn wins at Coucil Bluffs. The enemy forces look very weak on strength and probably worse on cohesion.

Stuard wins one, though not impressive.

Van Dorn wins another one, and when all is said and done captures two 12lb artillery which he now has in his division.

Stuat wins, but now has little to no ammo.

Finally Watie's indians have fought in a battle and won. A little departured from their raiding, but I need supply at Bloomington, so took the indians into battle. Hopefully those three indian regiments at Fort Laramie will get freed up so they can join Watie. That will make him a little more of a force to reckon with and one that can live off the land rather easily.

Replacements: 4 cavalry
Reinforcements:
3 brigs

I am going to have to offer more money for volunteers as in 1863 I see a manpower shortage coming on. I will also have to purchase more artillery to supplement the manpower that I'm not going to have. Once again historical attrition is taking its toll.

Turn 38 Late October 1862

Longstreet is firmly in place at Williamsburg and the enemy will pay heavily attacking is position I'm thinking. Mcgruder has taken charge of a corps at Harpers Ferry anchoring the end of my line there. Other than that not much going on here. Thinking of trying to challenge his fleet, but then I really need to get Semmes or Buchanan there before doing it. Other than that I'll try to get some more artillery at that small port North of Petersburg so that his ships will take even more hits.

Forrest is good on supply so will move to cut the rail South of Louisville and try to destroy the enemy brigade there. Stuart is in a bad positions with supply. I may break his force up and move them in two different directions. I know some of the units starve, but when that happens for some reason the generals starve with them. Anyways, may move in different directions to maximize supply. Sending a small two infantry brigade to attack the enemy unit near Bowling Green.

Hindman is going to stay put for a turn. I may move him to take St. Josephs or to dig in at Fort Levenworth, depending on what the enemy units at Lexington do. The enemy forces in Omaha City I expect to just starve out. I think having the depot at Council Bluffs is a good position. Watie is moving to attack some enemy militia off map and get some more experiance for his little indians.

CSA defeat though not remarkable. Hopefully the bad terrain in the area will cause the some attrition for the enemy.

I am pleased with my numerical advantage in this front. Unless he breaks through Humboldt he isn't going to have much luck making progress in this area. I'm thinking a fort at Humboldt would be wise. The terrain behind the area is less defensible, and I would have to defend more of it.

CSA victory at Harpers Ferry. The battle took place before Mcgruder could form a corps, but I held nonetheless.

Replacements: 5 infantry, 1 cavalry
Reinforcements:
TX: 3 militia, 2inf SS brigade

He landed a force in Matagoria, Texas. I don't have any forces there to deal with this, but am going to put together a small force rapidly. Hopefully I can deal with Fort Pickens quickly and divert those three divisions to deal with this new beach head.

Turn 39 Early November 1862

I want to say I have about 30K troops in the area around Pensacola and Fort Pickens. My opponent has the one division in Sparta, which will starve I think. He also has Meade with about 900+ strength in Fort Pickens. I think I'll be able to hold the siege, but need to get some ships there to blockade the fort. I diverted my ships over to Texas where my forces are weak. So need to get that dealt with first.

Fortunately my opponent only has about a 160 strenght division, which I do not think is going to be enough for serious offensive actions. I have forces gathering at Houston and Galveston.

Forrest is going to continue to disrupt enemy units between Louisville and Bowling Green. Stuart's division is all but destroyed from lack of supply, so will spend the winter rebuilding. Moving the one brigade away from Clarksburg so it can draq supply from Prestonburg. All my raiding cavalry are making there way back to safe areas after destroying a little bit of railroad.

Only one militia guarding that depot. Watie and a cavalry unit will attack and maybe get lucky and destroy the depot. Van Dorn is going to stay at Council Bluffs and Hindman will stay at Fort Levenworth. I think his units are going to be critical for supply with the nearest depot being at Jefferson City. The harsh weather will not help him either.

Not a great victory, but he did take 8 hits on retreat.

Turn 39 Continued

As you can see I have a significant force in the Gulf area, but so does my opponent. This division however is cut of from supply and will not make it back to the safety of Fort Pickens.

My artillery did manage to out range his by 1, but it didn't help me win the battle. Not a crushing defeat though and with the weather being as bad as it is, I don't see the enemy being able to attack successfully again.

Another victory for the indians. Watie and his little band are some excellent raiders and have the ability to win against his isolated units.

Turn 40 Late November 1862

Yes, he will lose that division. He won't make it through Milton or Pensacola. Mud is all over the place and I seriously doubt he can make it past the two forts outside Mobile if he tries to use river transport. Maybe I need to raise some siege guns so I can start making hits on the fort. I might since I'm hurting more for men than money and ws right now.

Initially moving Buchanan and some ironclads in position. He will be followed by gunboats and transports to seal off the forces in Matagoria. It has no depot and I think that I can challenge any releif fleet he sends.

One cavalry regiment is cutting rail outside St. Louis. Watie and a cavalry regiment are returning from a successful attack on Quincy where they destroyed the defending unit. Depot is intact though. Sending one infantry regiment to take Omaha City. His forces in the area are severly short of supply.

It looks like all my raiders are going to make it back withoug starving. Other than that my units need to get some rest and sit tight for the winter.

I do not forsee much action on this front. I am sending some artillery to Norfolk to reinforce the area. Need to make it even deadlier for his ships to enter the area. Hopefully in a turn or two, his fleet will be weak enough I can attack it.
