Too bad. This is something IMHO that this great games lacks. Every single book on ACW has battles histories and generals records. I think that a year ago someone posted an outside program that did track those things but link died soon and creator never replied.
As for historical accuracy you have doone giant step and I really enjoy playing.
Forrest said something about killing a Yankee for each of his horses that they shot. In the last days of the war, Forrest had killed 30 of the enemy and had 30 horses shot from under him. In a brief but savage conflict, a Yankee soldier "saw glory for himself" with an opportunity to kill the famous Confederate General... Forrest killed the fellow. Making 31 Yankees personally killed, and 30 horses lost...

He remarked, "I ended the war a horse ahead."

I've found i have to disable User Account Control (and then restart the PC) with Vista before you can install the mod successfully. Once its installed you can re-enable it and play the game as normal. See if that helps.

I just did a new install with the current files on a Vista system with UAC desactivated. The game runs normally. So the problem doesn't seem to be tied to the files but to something wrong in the install or to Vista, the OS system built to prohibit any other programs than Word and Internet Explorer.

Your path isn't the default one. You have to change it manually when prompted during the batch process from:

C:\Program files\SFV\Struggle for a vast future mod\

to

C:\Games\SFV\Struggle for a vast future mod\

What's the financial situation for me as CSA player at the end of 1861?

As you will notice, men aren't scarce but I lack money. In SVF, you can print new money only a few turns by year ( partly for gameplay balance reasons, partly because in the 19th Century only in complete despair a government was using inflation by multiplying scriptural money). Some other financila options are moe costly too, either in NM, or VP or they give more inflation.

My inflation rate is yet strong and I'm forced to print more money this turn to get funds necessary to choose the 2,000$ bounty option...

Image

Industrial production:

The USA AI is reaching a blockade level ranging between 35 to 45%...

At start, I've built about 10 brig units I've placed in the blockade boxes. All in all, they deliver about the cost of an infantry brigade each turn. Not much but when you're poor...

Image

Since the start I'm too industrializing each turn, a region by turn. luckily, I've got some results and I begin to reach a valuable if fragile production level.

Next year, I will certainly suffer from the contrary: losses in men should raise when WSU stock will be signficant: I will get material but men will be lacking.

of course, in the next months, I will have the conscription option. but in SVF, conscriptions lowers severely the NM...I will certainly use it but no way to hope a quick victory...

All this seems rather historical: CSA at start having unarmed men, then arms without men...

Amphibious invasion around Mobile by Butler's Cumberland army in April 62. From time to time this AI is surprising. I must admit the scope of the force to be unusual.

crash again

Fri Mar 20, 2009 2:52 am

Clovis,
The last installation crash was my fault. When I created the Stuglles folder I did not copu the ACW files into it. Removed entire install and started over. installed game into program files.C:\program files\AGEod's American Civil War. I installed SFV1 into Struggle for a vast future mod folder. Installed SFV2 into C:\program files\AGEod's American Civil War\GameData folder. Installed SFV3 into C:\program files\AGEod's American Civil War\Graphics folder. (Sorry I do not speak french or read it but I figured out to replace all when asked)

Extracted the SFV0 files to C:\program files\AGEod's American Civil War, ran the bat file struggle. my admidstrator account has been deactivated. Did a restart of my computer. Started the game and crash. I have attached the log.

What steps did I go wrong in?

Assuming the path of your AACW copy is C:\program files\AGEod's American Civil War

1) place SVF0, SVF1, SVF2, SVF3 files into C:\program files\AGEod's American Civil War

2) unzip SVF0, SVF1,SVF2, SVF3 in the same folder C:\program files\AGEod's American Civil War

3) run struggle.bat file. Click yes for any following dialog window.

Options for playing Union: FoW +1 or+2, activation +1, normal aggressivity.

Doubleclick on the svf3 file. Click OK in the following dialog box. It should install the files in the right folders.

SVF3 contains only graphic files so you may play SVF without in any case. That's the first time I'm asked about this type of error and frankly I've no explanation about as I'm using Vista too without problem when installing SVF on my laptop. :bonk:

A new version of SVF mod is available at the first page of this thread.

I will name it the 0.95 version. ;)

I've started this mod around July 2007. My first motive was to delay the formation of division until October 61... ;) Something recently introduced in the vanilla version.

I bought a few books just to ad some flavour events. And then I changed a little more here and there after readings.

I bought other books. I 've now around 75 about the Civil War...

I made other changes. The losses in battles were too high, the Kentucky evnts were broken...

Today, SVF is really playable against both AI and PBEM may be tried ( I'm not garanteeing the balance). Both AI may be yet improved but I feel to be better.

Most of the features I wished are in place. Most of the event bugs are gone.

I'm proud in peculiar of the kentucky events. i feel my battle losses system to be yet slighty superior to the official version one.

Some work remains. I've yet to add more possible confederate 3 stars generals, I have yet to tweak leaders values and attributes, tweak production to add better balance.

I've yet to refine the new model of coastal guns I implemented with this version ( see point 9 of the highlights).

All this shouldn't have been possible without:

- the AGEOD constant improving of AACW ( the newAI commands to cite just one)
- Gray Lensman's fabulous work on AACW data

Back to work!

Great news Clovis  . I am playing your mod as Union and taking pics and writing stuff as my plan is to start posting AAR. This AAR will be slightly different as it will look as Grant wrote it. Something like memoairs. Since so far I have played and wrote 8 turns I have a question concerning newest mod. If I download it, will it mess my save file?
Keep up the great work. So far I like it better then original one :coeurs:

Normally no, just some of the new events will not fire. Now just in case keep a copy of the SVF version to get back.

Impatient to read your AAR.

Just to make sure, new version 0.95 replaces SVF files on page 1. So I just download the 4 files. Just asking because I don't see v0.95 in title.

Ironclads

Mon Mar 23, 2009 2:45 pm

Hello Clovis,

Am playing your mod as Union and enjoying it very much. One question; I built an ironclad in Philadelphia but it will not sail south to Hampton Roads. Am I missing something here? Seems I was able to build ironclads on the east coast and then move them to the James Estuary in ver 1.13b.

BTW, like the Ubik avatar. Mr. Dick would be pleased, on one of his better days ;)

I noticed that a combined fleet of ironclads/frigates was having issues moving from Ft. Monroe down the coast. In some cases the fleet would not enter the seas zone outside Chesapeake Bay, in others it was reported as taking 1003 days to arrive.

Apologies that this is not more specific; I was planning on making a list of bugs/issues after a full play through but after both you and AGEOD updated versions, I started over. Unfortunately I cannot get SVF95 and Quickfix 5 to run together as it keeps crashing on start-up. According to the log there appears to be a problem with UIDS.

ironclads

Mon Mar 23, 2009 4:03 pm

Clovis,

Playing your mod as the union I can't sail the ironclad USS Patapsco from Baltimore through the Choptank Estuary as it is an ocean zone. So it is stuck in Baltimore or the Chesapeake Head. Am I missing something here, or should I not be ordering ironclads from Maryland?

If I need to send you the saved game, I've not done that before so let me know which files to send.

Think the mod is great overall.

Fixed.

You have to go in the SVF/Gamedata/units folder. Look for a file named: 287USARodman Art. (KY). Remove it.

I've uploaded a new version on the first page of the thread with the modification.

Problem solved. I'll keep an eye out for other stuff, but I'm in the process of moving, so if I don't get back to you right away, it's because I don't have internet access.

Another issue: Ledger text has disappeared. For example: the headings above politicial options, next turn expenses, the text below rail/river purchases, etc. Also, battle report screens are largely blank.

Fixed.

Dowload this file and unzip it in the SVF/Gamedata/Regions folder. Compatible with old patch and contains the most recent changes in Quickfix5.

The full SVF version at the first page of this thread has been updated too and needs no fixing.

This sort of bug is tied with a AGE font loading problem when restarting too much game session without closing Windows. I lost a full day one year ago searching a bug for this in my mod....
