I had some trouble the last time I tried it, but prior to that I had caught onto creating divisions well enough to have gone blithely all over the board building about 20 of them. Now I am working on learning how to do armies and corps and have had a little success doing that. I am sure I shall catch on. The chain of command seems to be quite crucial in this game. I am having problems with units getting out of supply, but I am sure I shall catch on to that too in time. I can already see what a great game it is, just what I was looking for. This message may look odd at some point. I am typing around a cat in my lap. However, a problem just arose that I really don't understand. I'll try to describe it as exactly as I can.
The large force Farragut has at the beginning of the game, this is Summer 1861 now, was sitting in New York harbor. I had "Fighting Joe" Hooker in Newark with his command, not made into a division, corps or army. He had three infantry units and two of artillery. I say "units" because in this game it seems infantry can represent either a regiment or a brigade (with "elements" as the regiments), and artillery units seem to be somewhere between a Civil War battery and a batallion. Anyway, I sent Hooker to New York and loaded his command on Farragut's ships. I sent the ships with Hooker's men aboard down to, I think, Charles Bay. Anyway, they were standing off the area where Norfolk is located. I had taken Norfolk by amphibious landing the first time I played, and it worked fine. I moved Hooker and each of his five units to the land area containing Norfolk one by one, because when I moved Hooker, only he moved, none of his units. As I moved each one, they

of course briefly became ghosted, as they seem to in this game when you do it that way. When the smoke of battle and the resoultion phase cleared, there was Hooker beside Norfolk with only one unit, the First US!!!!! The other four units seemed to have disappeared entirely. They were not on Farragut's ships, not with Hooker, not back in either Norfolk nor New York. What happened? Where did they go? How can I keep this from occurring again? I certainly won't be doing any more amphibious landings until I figure out this problem, maybe with someone's help.
