For what i read, cossacks were not really "combat troops". They were of no use on the battlefield and any organized resistance will make them turn around and flee.
But one would not like to encounter them while being wounded or lost, or straggling on the road.
And for pestering the enemy, gathering info and turning loose on the rear echelons of the enemy army they were invaluable...

Yes that's what I meant, too. The cossacks armament and tactics made them unsuitable for the battlefield. Like scavengers, they attacked only the most weakened (wounded, women, etc). But they did have a tremendous impact on french morale, especially no one wanted to be left behind and fall into their hands. I don't want to feed stereotypes but Zamoyski gives many examples for a sadistic streak. For example, according to him, they liked to rob prisoners of all their clothes, at -30C.

Bohemia as portrayed on the map is distorted and weird. Towns are in the wrong place, the rivers are inaccurate, the relative areas of the different Bohemian regions are out of whack, it will ruin the game.

you can't simulate a campaign on an inaccurate map and even if it's said to be just a game, the inaccurate map destroys any sense of immersion

also why is it only the Austrian areas are portrayed inaccurately? is this an indicator about how the Austrians will be portrayed in other elements of the game?

I bet the Austrians are underpowered in the game; in reality they won as many battles as the Prussians, beat Frederick out of Moravia and Bohemia in the first campaigns and took the war into Silesia, Saxony and Brandenburg for the remaining 5 years. They occupied Berlin twice. With a little more resolution on the part of Daun they could have won the war in the aftermath of Kunersdorf. Not once did Frederick have such an opportunity; certainly not after Leuthen and the only time he approached the Austrian heartland he had the whole Austrian hauptarmee on his tail and he was forced to flee after his supply train and treasure were taken by Laudon.

Frederick never wanted to fight another war again, the SYW was so awful he became a broken man, a shattered useless husk of what he had once been. All he managed to do in the Potato War was starve his army. Is there a Frederick demoralisation rule in the game? I hope so.

The only disadvantage for the Austrians compared to the Prussians was they respected the laws of war and of the empire.
