PhilThib, and Krasnozekov's portrait?

Is it already too late to include one?

Will be done if you find him ;) In fact, it is extremely difficult to find portraits of leaders of this era (mid 18th century) apart from the most famous ones... at the moment we have almost 400 leaders in the game but found portraits for less then 50 of them...

It would be a pity that a cossack commander like this has no portrait ;)

To find portrait is easier than modding, better that a professional does it :)

In this case russian sources are needed, from here

http://bibliotekar.ru/rusKart/11.htm

Google translation of the text. But no attributes? BEsides the cavalty commander, he should be a sorcerer +1 :D

FI Krasno (? -1764) - Ataman Cossack camp, the son of a famous hero of the Don, terrifying enemies of their courage, "wild type" and a person completely covered with scars. FI Krasnoshchekov himself became famous for bravery. He was a member of the Seven Years' War (1756 -l763) during which running his .. and his Cossacks, had the enemy in every way obespokoivat. "In the battles Krasnoshchekov showed bravery, courage and valor, was promoted to brigadier, then major-general. There has been established for the award of the Cossacks and gold," lined in diamonds "to wear a medal around his neck. Cunning and intelligent, he had a reputation among the Cossacks of the sorcerer. The people of Krasnoshchekova composed the song, calling it "a daring horseman and glorious hero."

Depicted in a colorful dress Cossack on his chest - the award medal, according to J. Staehelin, Antropov wrote this portrait for the "hetman" Razumovsky.

Another source, this is a russian page about the SYW with some portraits, perhaps you find something useful

OK arsan, here you go ;)

обеспокоить , Verb
disturb

So обеспокоивать must be a word derived or a verbal form.

It seems that he and his cossacks were a bit disturbing for the prussians, or the prussians were disturbed by their presence

I would be disturbed seeing a horde of these guys coming :D

Great painting ! It's describing an event set in 1676 : the cossack reply to the turkish sultan.

Have a look at the reply text (ok, it's only a legend...) you'll better understand why they are so hilarious : these guys know how to speak to their ennemies. :mdr:

I think it was all about tactics. From Adam Zamoyski:

the Cossack was armed with a lance, which could only cause minor injuries
they would always turn around and flee when you pointed a musket on them
but they would always return which had a demoralizing effect on the French

sounds more like vulture tactics to me.

From "Moscow 1812: Napoleon's Fatal March"?? :)
Awesome book! :coeurs: :coeurs:
For what i read, cossacks were not really "combat troops". They were of no use on the battlefield and any organized resistance will make them turn around and flee.
But one would not like to encounter them while being wounded or lost, or straggling on the road.
And for pestering the enemy, gathering info and turning loose on the rear echelons of the enemy army they were invaluable...
Really nasty guys...

Yes, Adam Zamoyski: 1812: Napoleon's Fatal March on Moscow.

For what i read, cossacks were not really "combat troops".

Yes that's what I meant, too. The cossacks armament and tactics made them unsuitable for the battlefield. Like scavengers, they attacked only the most weakened (wounded, women, etc). But they did have a tremendous impact on french morale, especially no one wanted to be left behind and fall into their hands. I don't want to feed stereotypes but Zamoyski gives many examples for a sadistic streak. For example, according to him, they liked to rob prisoners of all their clothes, at -30C.

waiting

Sat Nov 07, 2009 4:39 am

Just playing old war games - waiting for christmas.
For one grandsire stood with Henry,
On Hanover's Sacred sod,
And the other followed "Harry"
In the Light Horse' foremost squad.
And my grandsires stood together
When the foe at Yorktown fell;
"Stock" like this, against oppression
Could do naught else but REBEL.

The good news is that we are still on schedule. There are really big chances that ROP will be published sometime in February.

Screenshots will be soon posted with more regularity once we are really only doing testing.

Will the map be revised?

Bohemia as portrayed on the map is distorted and weird. Towns are in the wrong place, the rivers are inaccurate, the relative areas of the different Bohemian regions are out of whack, it will ruin the game.

you can't simulate a campaign on an inaccurate map and even if it's said to be just a game, the inaccurate map destroys any sense of immersion

also why is it only the Austrian areas are portrayed inaccurately? is this an indicator about how the Austrians will be portrayed in other elements of the game?

I bet the Austrians are underpowered in the game; in reality they won as many battles as the Prussians, beat Frederick out of Moravia and Bohemia in the first campaigns and took the war into Silesia, Saxony and Brandenburg for the remaining 5 years. They occupied Berlin twice. With a little more resolution on the part of Daun they could have won the war in the aftermath of Kunersdorf. Not once did Frederick have such an opportunity; certainly not after Leuthen and the only time he approached the Austrian heartland he had the whole Austrian hauptarmee on his tail and he was forced to flee after his supply train and treasure were taken by Laudon.

Frederick never wanted to fight another war again, the SYW was so awful he became a broken man, a shattered useless husk of what he had once been. All he managed to do in the Potato War was starve his army. Is there a Frederick demoralisation rule in the game? I hope so.

The only disadvantage for the Austrians compared to the Prussians was they respected the laws of war and of the empire.
