Good Ole Ethan Allen

Fri Jun 23, 2006 11:50 pm

In the 1775 Campaign prior to 1.08 Ethan Allen showed up with the force to take Ticonderoga, as he did historically. Now he shows up much later. Why the change?

Too many drinks with the Green Mountain Boys?

Even if he participated in the Ticonderoga taking (not much of a fight as you know), he later recruited the Mountain boys, so this is mostly a historicity vs gameplay issue (we can't add him twice on the map)

The trick bieng that if you add him in Ticonderoga (as we did initially), he will then never show up, whether by AI or player, to the right place to get the Green Mountains Boys...
In terms of gameplay, he is useless at Ticonderoga (Warner is enough), while he may be helpful with the boys later (better to have a leader than none)...

Aside from capturing Ti what did Allen actually do? His command of the Green Mountain Boys was taken away from him (and given to Warner) and he went to Canada with Montgomery without a commission only to lead an advance party into contact with the Brits where he was captured. After that his career was over as I recall.

He was captured by the Brits and freed in 1778, where he acted for the statehood of Vermont. What would he has achieved in the CA if not captured? We can't know... but our design philosophy is to not force leaders to be killed or captured at the historical date of their demise.
