Good coastal defensive spots - confederate

Sat Aug 09, 2008 5:45 am

Besides Ft Fisher, are there any other good spots to station a division? Are there any dangerous spots? I've heard certain spots the enemy navy can prevent your retreat.

I don't believe there are any spots that you can get locked into by the enemy, except Ft. Sumter. As far a a good spot to position troops, I tend to leave a response force inland with access to rail; for those "Just in case" moments.

Norfolk is a good place if you have artillery there. You can bombard passing ships which will be a pain for the USA as if you had Ft. Monroe.

Oh yeah, of course leave the pre-positioned units in the forts, where they are. You definitely want the bombardment of ships to continue. I was just saying leave a response force in the shadows to take care of most of those amphib landings, if there are any.

I heard you could be locked in on the Ft Monroe landmass. Historically I think the South stopped the Northern ironclad advance at Ft Fisher.

From what I understand, yeah you could be locked out of/on Ft. Monroe. I was thinking about the defense, not an assault/occupation situation.
