Can leaders be imbedded in brigades?

Mon Jul 07, 2008 9:40 pm

For example, leader Somerset in 1st hvy cav bde. If such is possible, would such an imbedded leader help out with CPs? (yes, I've been looking at CP challenged Uxbridge in 1815.)

Dont forget the flying machine a mad Russian attempted to sell to Kotusov in 1812. (I notice there is a movement type "air" allowed....hmmm)

Has anyone actually tried having a leader as part of a brigade?...I notice some brigades have inf and arty, or cav and arty.

Hi!
To know what a brigade/unit can merge with (wich in most case is with nothing more that they already have at full strength) or to know wich elements are missing from the brigade select two units on the unit panel and put the mouse over the (+) button (the one you use to add units to a division). The tooltip over the botton will tell you the maximum TOA of each selected unit.
For example, a two infantry element brigade can say
(2) Infantry elements
Which means no merging is possible if the brigade already ahve the two elements or
(1) Leader
(2) Infantry elements
Which would mean you can merge a leader to them.

This system works nicely on AACW. But i'm not positive about NCP :siffle:

arasn,
Thanks for the merging tips. I was asking about creating a unit, in the xls file that has a leader, plus combat elements. Brigade LeClerc would have Leader LeClerc as part of the brigade.

Just check the Units file for AACW, if there are no NCP brigades with embedded leader, this would be surprising though.

In NCP there are some brigades in starting OOB, but it's quite hard to form new ones during the game.

In this case this is because the brigade, in units.xls don't have a room for a $famLeader slot. See the columns family0 etc. in AACW, you will see cav brigades with such data, use this same structure to allow that in NCP for all brigades of your liking.

Know though that the engine don't support 2 leaders in a single unit, so it is on purpose that a division has only the div commander and not him plus one commander for each brigade.
