1.10d errors mid game

Sat Jul 05, 2008 6:43 pm

Ok, I've reinstalled 3 times and am still seeing errors that tell the application is 'stalled'. I'm given an option to continue and the errors continue to occur. I tried installing each time in a new directory without success. :grr:

I hope that isn't a problem related to downloading this game through MatrixGames. I had to purchase a download version as my cd was stepped on is no longer working (kids..).

This is a virgin install with no mods..

Errors for me as well. Happened after (1) uninstalling the game, (2) reinstalling, (3) applying patch 1.10d, (4) applying mod 20080704, (5) starting a new game in Apr 61 against CSA AI. Part of the error as recorded in !Main.txt log:

Install 1.10c then 1.10d

Sun Jul 06, 2008 1:22 am

I tried installing 1.10c then 1.10d and it works -- no more errors. Apparently 1.10d doesn't work as a standalone patch.

Gray I had an error in the 1861 june scenario last night. I have the cdv retail box game. I did a clean install with 1.10d last night added your mod and had an error. I over wrote all the files.

Gray I tried to recreate the error tonight by starting the coming fury scenario a couple of times to try and recreate it and it hasn't reappeared. The error was in French so I couldn't really tell what it was. I believe my box version starts at 1.07.

In general, do note that when you are using a mod, you should take extra steps to ensure that the problem isn't caused by the mod before reporting it as a problem with the official patch.

This applies even when you have just upgraded the official patch and kept the mod the same, since the mod may be incompatible with changes in the official patch.

If you don't understand the error (i.e. because it is in French), simply cut'n'paste it here or take a screenshot of it; people here can still use the information :)

I have not been able to reproduce any problems using v1.10d followed by 20080704. I tested this several times since last night, each time 1) uninstalling 2) deleting the remaining original game files 3) reinstalling 4) patching directly to v1.10d and 5) installing 20080704. I just now tested this against several turns of a new game as the USA against the CSA in the April 1861 game, still with absolutely no problems.

I wonder if you extracted 20080704 incorrectly into the newly installed game? This could definitely cause all sorts of problems... You should have been prompted for Overwrites, as 20080704 replaces well over 500+ files.

edit> It would be better however, if you wish to continue discussing 20080704, and possible problems, to take the discussion to the Historical MOD thread link below, to reduce confusion for those with possible problems with v1.10d alone.

Turbo823:

Not sure, but you may have to get your patches thru Matrix since you bought the download game thru Matrix. (I'm not positive about this however). Matrix handles their patching executable somewhat differently from AGEod in a lot of cases, which may or may not have something to do with your v1.10d not working standalone. For me, it has worked flawlessly, even back to when v1.10d was being tested as a "beta". My original (v1.0)download was directly from AGEod.

Matrix support tells me that their downloaded game is identical to the Ageod game and has not been modified. According to them there can be no incompatibility. I am now fighting with them over the AMEX charge which I have put a hold on until I get clarification on this from the AGEOD staff. I've forwarded them a link to this thread as justification.

Meanwhile, taking your advice, I purchased a boxed version of the game at the local store (another $40 bucks). Same situation -- installed the patch and started to see errors about 12+ turns into the game. Tried twice with same results. I am NOT using any mods so that isn't the problem. Defragged the HD, checked all the drives, disabled all the TSR's. I am using Win XP Professional with an Nvidia 8800, creative EAX, 4 gigs ram, 500 gigs space (only 50% filled). I am positive that this is a software issue.

Is the US boxed CD also not compatible with the patches (maybe its a Matrix product?). Do I need to buy a third copy downloaded from AGEOD? This is really trying my patience...

Turbo, my remarks about mods were directed at others who provided information that might indicate they were using mods.

I'm sorry to hear you are having problems and I'm sure people will do their best to figure out what is happening and how to solve it.

Hi Turbo823,

sorry for the trouble. This might be a bug, we need to check that. There are no compatibility issues, regardless there you bought the game, the patches are all the same.
Can you please send the logs and the savegame which is crashing upon turn resolution to support@ageod.com ?
(As a single zip or rar archive if possible and with a reference to this thread.)

Thanks!

Weather files

Mon Jul 07, 2008 2:58 am

I'm not sure if this can cause a problem, but I have noticed that some of the probabilities for weather for a particular type of terrain don't always add to 100. For instance, in the Coastal Lowlands file, the November Impassable Mountain adds to 95 and the December Coastal Waters adds to 110.

These are just a couple of examples, I have not been through the other files.

This is under 1.10d, no modifications at all.

Again, I'm not sure what if any problems this may cause.

Thanks

Thats because they went back to the original pre 1.07 buggy weather files for some reason.

Bug cleared, thanks Michael. It has to do with the fleet keeping the Promote Order while not having any leader. For now on, just don't promote a leader if you remove it from his stack after. Remove him, then promote...

Gray_Lensman wrote:I wouldn't think that a boxed version would have any compatiblity issues at all, and the only thing Matrix would modify if at all is the installer/serial number process. That's why I initially stated you may or may not have to wait for them to release the latest patch thru their installer.

Above, you are stating now that you are seeing errors 12 turns into the game, whereas before, I took you to mean that you were seeing errors as soon as you started the game. If you don't mind could you give me the exact situation...

Is it a clean install to v1.10d, with or without 20080704 installed, and what scenario you are starting and what side you are playing?

I'm getting the errors after/on the 12th turn and I was playing the 1861 April scenario as the CSA. The Matrix download version is 1.05 and upgrading it directly to 1.10d caused the issue. Whats worse is that when I loaded my PBEM and my AAR game, the above bug trashed my savegames. At the time, I didn't know what was causing it so I kept loading up previous games, killing all the previous savegames.

When I installed 1.10c then installed 1.10d, the game runs fine. I am not sure that I have any old saves and I repeated uninstalled/reinstalled.

Ageod support is absolutely the best so my complaining had more to do with not being able to play AACW which is my favorite game. The nice things about bugs with Ageod is that they get fixed quickly.

Dare I ask -- when will the next patch be released and, what will be included?

Just curious.

So am I correct to assume that if we already have the game patched too 1.1c that upgrading directly to d shouldn't cause any problems? Or should we be doing afresh install? This thread scares me.

Well, if you want to be on the safe side, do a fresh install. :cwboy:
If your are lazy (like me :innocent :) patch over the 1.10c version... and if the game give some problem (not a common occurrence from my experience) you can always reinstall and patch to 1.10d :siffle:
(Now Gray will come around and tell you to do a fresh install.. wait and see! :niark: :innocent: )

Not if I beat him to it! :niark:

When in doubt, or nervous:

Uninstall, delete the entire game directory, install base game, install patch.

How'd I do, Gray? :)

It's always OK to try to 'over-patch' first, but if it bombs, try the tedious [= safest] way.
You could even copy the save game folder elsewhere, then copy it back. :)
