Middle Tenn River move issue

Sun Jul 06, 2008 8:15 pm

With 1.10d, I don't seem to be able to move gunboats to the Middle Tenn River anymore? Anyone else having this issue?

There was a discussion going about limiting the navigability of the Tennessee river, but I lost track of how it concluded (or even if it did).

Perhaps GL or someone else knows?

OK, minor brain fart on my part, then :)

Andrew, could it be that that part of the river is frozen? (If not, please provide some more information on your situation)

Raf - it's not frozen, it's rapids. Gunboats don't go there anymore.

I took "Middle Tenn River" to be the name of a river region (thereby probably revealing that I do not know the names of all of them by heart ;) ), i.e. one that it is different form the Muscle Shoals. If it isn't, I apologize and shall withdraw form the thread to avoid creating further confusion :)

No need - my turn to apologize (and clarify).

Muscle Shoals is a geographic feature in the Middle Tennessee River region. There are actually several sets of shoals nearby, making the region nearly always impassable to gunboats (nearly enough for game purposes). That made it a favorite crossing point for Confederates, as well. Sherman wrote a subordinate from Atlanta, that if Forrest crossed the river there one more time, he (the subordinate) should retaliate by burning the towns on both sides.

FYI, you can still use riverine transport to go Eastward past Muscle Shoals though. At least I can plot that move in one of my PBEM's. Will confirm after I see the turn resolution.

When I tested, troops using river transport would disembark in one one of regions adjacent to the shoals, and reembark on the other side. That seems like a realistic limitation to me. Is that what your troops are doing, or do they go straight through?

Jabber, All,

Should know shortly, my PBEM opp has my orders now. I await the new turn file.
