The Spanish garrison at Mobile

Sun Jun 18, 2006 3:14 pm

Why are they so weak and are they eligible for replacements?

In my games the Brits usually invade Spanish Louisiana and do not bother defending Georgia. Because of the weak garrison they have been sometimes succesfull in taking the city and so Galvez appears in the middle of nowhere.

Also, some Spanish militia regiments have appeared at Charleston, SC.

I have also had Spanish units appear in Georgia and even South Carolina -- it does seem to have a link with the status of their other possessions.

Which scenario, what date ? Was Mobile occupied by the brits at that time ?

The reason I see the Spanish show up here is in case their original appearance location is enemy-occupied, in which case they "land" in a nearby region of the Deep South....

Playing the CG (1775) with the current patch, I have received Spanish reinforcements in South Carolina. At the time both Mobile and Fla were controlled by Spain.

In my last CG with the previous patch, the same thing happened.

If I'm not mistaken, the Spanish receive troops in july 79, even if the French are still at peace.

The script procedure is correct, it is supposed to add the Spanish troops in Louisiana, if not enemy.

I have changed it a bit to "force" the appearance of Spanish troops there (it means that if the British have taken it, the Spanish still show up here in counter-attack, something they would have done historically).

I can buy that. If I was Spain I would counter-attack. Of course, I might send a large force.....is there any variability to Spain's forces in the game? (Like the reinforcements linked to Louisburg in the 1755 campaign?)

No, there wasn't...and I have no historical data to sustain such a Spanish buildup. Galvez did his succesful campaign with a handful of forces from Louisiana and Cuba, and almost no reinforcements from Spain...
