Division Leaders

Wed Apr 30, 2008 2:13 pm

I also noticed that occasionally I have generals that are not able to form full divisions. This happens in particular with the Shenandoah force. Why is that?

1.- Leader is locked, or some unit in the stack is locked.

2.- Leader is unactivated.

During the first 4 (or so) turns the starting armies are locked

In what way do you notice it?

A possible explanation is that inactive generals are not able to form divisions (though they can still be attached to individual brigades)

They are able to attach to individual brigades but not form divisions. What makes then inactive and how does one chnage that?

I think some of the Shenandoah force some leaders (Bee for example) comes already attached to his own brigade.
To form a division with this leaders you have first to unmerge them (with the (-) button) from the brigade.
You can notice a merged leader by his gray stripe over the name and because he has combat power.
Hope it helps

Yes an inactive leader can attach into a brigade, but it is not allowed to create divisions. It is hard, but it is the way it goes.

About how to avoid inactivation: You can´t...
A leader is activated depending on a die-roll 1-6. If die is <= his strat rating it activates... So Lee (6 rating) "always" is activated, while a 2 activates nearly never...

Ok this is a resume... you should check the wiki...

Hi

About the real ACW Shenandoah's army, i think it was not big enough to be considered an Army in in game terms.
On game its better simulated as an independent command or if you want to, a corps of the ANV.

Regards!

Inactive CSA Generals is becoming a sore point with me. I have had to retreat from Shenendoah where inactive Generals and inactive for 3 turns as well - so I cant form divisions. It was stay and fight an organised Yank Army with Organised Corps and Divisions and face annihialtion or retreat. I chose to retreat. I judged that the stay and fight penalties were too great for Jackson and Johnson to absorb. It does irritate me though - I learned from past games when I chose to stay and fight and Athena utterly destroyed Jacksons Corp - more than once that has happenned.
It appears that the dice that are rolled are weighted in favour of Yanks?

They are in the sense that if you have the options set as such, they get bonuses to their rolls. I think normal/normal still gives them +1 to their roll.

(I am sure you know all this, I am just putting it out there for new players so they don't assume Athena is out to get 'em.)

I tend to confuse them too. :D

However, Butler is a *** in my game as well. I just formed an army on him so I could reduce, by a trifle, the penalty for forming another one on McDowell - the only one of the initial *** to be halfway bearable in army command. :bonk:

I put ol'Banks into a Corps command as he was there. Along with another Corps in Manasas and he kept defending and found himself at the top of the promotion list LOL.
As for Butler...well you could get him captured by marchin g him to Richmond with a small unit and order an all out assault LOL
