New Player's Questions

Mon Apr 21, 2008 2:32 pm

My first foray into the game:
In the scenario where Armee Italie begins with a 35% problem I just cannot promote any Corps Commdrs to reduce this %.

Obviously I am doing something wrong. Help please.

Two ways out: either find a general from the other French forces to send to Armée d'Italie.... or detach some forces from her :indien:

I must be misreading manual, page 24 - Procedure: To form a corps select a 2 or 3 star leader etc then select "Create Corps" Special Order.

In the scn - my first game (I do not wish to proceed further until I completely understand where I am going wrong) so please bear with me.

5. Thames or Danube - I cannot form a Corps from Generals in Armee Italie in spite of them being 2 star and contrary to page 24.

What am I doing wrong please?

Is the prospective corps commander within the range of an army HQ?

Also, I think he must be alone (not part of a division) to form a corps. If he's in a division, have you tried dissolving it first, then form the corps on him?

Just two guesses ... :)

Heldenkaiser,

Thanks for prompt reply. All part of the Armee (Div Comdrs).
I will try removing one from the Armee.

Tried removing Div Comdr's force (broke down constituent force) and his rating fell to one star!.

If you cannot upgrade Div Commdrs within Armee d'Italie there is something wrong with the scn.

Procedure to create Corps:

1) ** General
1.1) Not attached to Bde
1.2) Not DIV Leader
1.3) Army must be formed before Corps can (Same turn is ok, form army first)

2) In range with Army
2.1) Go to Army Stack and press Shft (or maybe Ctl) and the range will be shown
2.2) Strat. Rating of Army Leader decides both the range and max number of corps that can be attached.

Procedure to create Div:
1) * General (must be active)
1.1) Not attached to Bde

2) Max number of elements in div is 18
2.1) Activate DIV command (Make sure you got the resources)
2.2) Ctl-Click all units to be merged into DIV
2.3) Some units can NOT be merged into a DIV (i.e. supply wagons)
2.4) Leader attached to Bde does not constitute a DIV though the unit appears with grey ribbon all the same. When you see a possible div (* + 1 unit) try merging more units inside. If this is not possible it means it's an attached general and not a 1-unit DIV.

3) Sometimes attaching a unit is possible but the DIV must be reformed first. In this case, disassemble the DIV by selecting it and hitting -. Then select leader (make sure the DIV command button is active) and ctl-select the units u just unmerged and the new units you want to merge.

I found this 3) casually. This probably happens when the DIV lost many elements and not all of them are entirely wiped out while still not appearing on the elements pane.

I hope i haven't forgotten anything in the procedures. :)

Gshock,
Many thanks for your prompt and helpful reply. Unfortunately I cannot form a Corps!
I have already carried out:
1) ** General
1.1) Not attached to Bde
1.2) Not DIV Leader...

this results in leader becoming a 1* thus not eligeable.

Check corps procedure number 2. :)

Is this ** general in range of Army?
Are you sure the closest army has free slots for an extra corps? Max Nr. of Corps = Army General Strategic Rating.

FYI: The unit portrait CHANGES if you attach a general to a unit. The fact you see two XX in the nato symbol doesn't mean that's a ** general.

XX in a rectangle = Leader attached to DIV
** in a rectangle = Leader attached to Unit (which is not a div but the fact you see ** doesn't mean he's a **. To check if he's ** see the ledger filtering for generals and sorting on rank)

Gshock,

Many thanks for this. I misread the xx - thought they were stars!
In this scn. I find that Armee d'Italie has a 35% penalty and, despite my transferring all arty. from Army Commdr. to Div. commdrs., this remains.

Memo to self: "must find a Corps Commdr." :)
