I agree the dialogue in G'burg & G&Gs is too contrived. Ted Turner's attempt to teach history to the masses.
You know whats funny too, Gburg is a way less accurate actual portrayal of these men then G&Gs....and any historian can tell you G&G easily reflects the people more and most people here seem to trash G&G n luv Gettysburg....yeah when you tell people the truth they dont like it and rather believe fiction! lol
I think the truth is, all modern day thinking people here simply really wouldnt have liked these men, by our way of thinking now they were narrow-minded bigots, who if you didnt think like them, (you) were tottaly wrong and going to burn in hell for eternity.........that was their attitude like it or not, but they were he$$ on wheels when it came time for a battle, as they lived n breathed a Spartan type of militaristic lifestyle, full of honor n pride, complete with deuls if you offended my honor.
Glory and CM are much more entertaining, but CM is completly a fictional story (baised in some real events)....and Glory takes so many liberties at times (comon a cavalry charge against lined Inf.....southeners werent that stupid! Even if fighting black folks)...that it might as well be.
Where the other two are trying to be documentries of sorts....still if we can include stories, wouldn't, 'Gone with the Wind' have to be the top vote getter as the greatest ever and winner?
Sure doesnt have much appeal now, but thhis movie is a time honored classic that won many oscar awards (equal to War and Peace perhaps)...yes Glory won an?...(only 1 dunno) oscar too, but has yet to stand the test of time.
