Should I be able to redeploy an army HQ?

Sun Apr 06, 2008 6:09 pm

I think the manual says I can ... but I can't. The button is greyed out. None of the possible reasons the tooltip info gives apply. I.e., it's sitting in Washington, military control is overwhelming; yes, it's an army HQ; and no, I haven't redeployed anyone else yet. And yes, I am allowed one redeployment per turn, and have regularly redeployed lone generals before. Oh and, yes, it's ready and has no red ribbon or a message "ready in N days". So?

Thanks! :)

Ah, now I get it. It's simply that it was in a stack with a signals detachment. The army HQ alone is easily redeployed. Sorry for being dumb! :o

So, the signals, balloon etc. units that should go with the army HQ will have to travel west by train? Arriving six weeks later if I get lucky? :innocent:

It's not dumb, man. Now you know.

And I think you can re-deploy any service assets that you have. I believe you are only restricted by the number of uses you have selected.

Thanks, I'll try next turn. :)

Although I've found that it's not all that easy. I wanted to create an army under Halleck, but it appears it would cost me a staggering 23 NM points plus hundreds of VP to appoint him, rather than McClellan (who is presently a corps commander under McDowell). Now if I fire McDowell to replace him with McClellan, that will cost only 3 NM, but I rather suspect I'll still not be free to appoint Halleck because quite a number of other three star imbeciles of the Fremont, Butler etc. type outrank him too ... so will I forever be forced to fight the war with McDowell and McClellan, hoping that some of the better generals with less seniority win enough battles to gain enough seniority that I can appoint them without risking a second rebellion from within? :p leure:

Yeah, that's one of those tough choices you have to make as the Union.

It is very frustrating, but I feel is a nice gamist way of replicating history without completely hamstringing you.

No doubt about that! I am just feeling my way around and thinking aloud. :innocent:

Hm, after the last patch 1.09e or something, I can't redeploy any general or HQ. I could before. Though they made a change in this patch because it was unrealistic. Not?
The button is not greyed out, but is impossible to press. :tournepas

Either
a) you are using 109d
109d is buggy perhaps you have it. Change 109e will solve the problem.

b) your leader has some command
changes were made from 109a to avoid tricky redeployment (i prefer teleport :niark :) when a leader has some "charges" --- (i e you can not redeploy a corps commander, army commander and the such)

Or you are trying to redeploy a stcak with more than a single, reployable unit

Sorry, of course I am talking about the "e" version. Never had problems with redeployment before, but you say that one have to isolate the unit to deploy entirely? Can't check since I am not by the game at the moment.

I'm fairly sure, but I never use redeploy myself, so I'm not certain

Check also if some unit in the stack has a "locked" symbol, that blocks most orders. If you isolate the unit you ll have no problems on this yes.

Dierk,
you may be forced to fight the first 18 months or so with McClellan and McDowell, but later you get LOTS (10 at least total ) Army headquarters. So you can create a new amry with Meade or Grant and Send Little Mac to Indian Territory with his army headquarters!

Take a look at the 1862 scenario (I am playing in now vs the AI). The Union start with I think 6 armies running around and can soon build 4 more!

This is historical. The Union had 3 armies operating in TN, on in AR, on in NO and two to three in VA.

Patience Dierk. This is not the Prussian Austrian War that lasted only a few months :p leure:

You can redeploy the HQ, you can redeploy the general.

You can't redeploy a general who has formed an army.

No problem now, solved with the latest patch. Thanks!
