Is your game freezing at black load up screen?

Fri Feb 22, 2008 1:39 am

I was reading a thread in here several pages back about some people having a problem with the game freezing at the black load up screen with the green progress bar getting about 1/3 complete then stopping.

I was having the same problem yesterday and from the advice in that thread, updated my video driver(Im using geforce 7600gs with XP) and after update and restart, game started fine. Well just tried the game today and did the same thing. I restarted my computer, but still locking up. I was trying to start the game from the start>all programs>AGEOD American Civil War>AGEOD American Civil War, BUT when I went to <start> and just clicked on the icon that is saved from previous games/programs that have been run, it fired right up.

Anyhow, maybe try that. Hope it works for those whom were having that same problem.

Quick note, tried to start game this morning using the <start> then click on icon, but froze again. Restarted computer and it worked, so just remember to restart computer each game.

I have had this problem several times. I think it may have something to do with Vista...though I can't be sure.

I have had this problem once. I solved it by restarting my PC. I also have Vista. It looks like you have probably identified the problem.

I've had it once on XP, so that's not the entire answer, I'm afraid

I also have XP.

One more note, this morning, I restarted first, then <start> click icon, but froze up again. I did a ctrl-alt-delt to end task, but window showed game as "running" and it soon after started working.

I've had this happen a couple of times (not recently), mainly when I have been running a graphics intensive program and not restarted. AACW uses a lot of memory, especially video memory. I don't have a great graphics card (ATI Radeon x600) but I have a 1gb of RAM and a 4gb paging file (I'm using XP).

Vista and XP are known memory hogs, and a lot of other programs dont 'clean up' after themselves very well.

my general reccommendations (in order):

1. increase paging file (virtual memory) maximum limit
2. update video drivers
3. uncheck texture initialization (game options/system)
4. reduce max. texture size to large
5. increase memory usage
6. buy more RAM
7. buy the latest greatest video card

black screen freeze

I have 1.09c installed, using Vista.
Sometimes the game starts sometimes it doesn't (freezes with the green bar about 1/3 of the way across).

Can this be fixed (I don't want to restart everytime I play the game.)

When this happen, try to unplug the internet connection and see if the game continues. If not, I guess it can be a video driver problem. Either post here or send your dxdiag to support@ageod.com

happens to me all the time on xp (9 out of 16 times this weekend) only thing to do is to restart the computer, and cross your fingers (my drivers are updatet)
