New patch and PBEM game

Hi there, Im looking to start a PBEM game of the 1812 Russian Campaign, I know noboby knows when patches are going to come out but do you think I have time to finish a PBEM game of this scenario before a new patch, or will it not matter, in other words will the savegames be compatible?, thanks.

Are current PBEM games adversely affected when a patch comes out? Even if both sides upgrade with the new patch?
