Field of Strategy 2 Game

Tue Jan 01, 2008 1:40 am

Hi, everybody. This wargame is freeware. It operates on four levels: tactical and divisional battles and operational and strategic campaigns. So far(there is always more stuff in the works)the historical periods represented are: Napoleonic(all four levels), World War II(all four levels), medieval(tactical battles), 18th century(tactical battles) and modern(divisional battles and a strategic campaign). The download package also includes map and army/scenario editors. One small caveat: The graphics won't win any awards, although I think they do what they need to do well enough. Anyway, to find this little gem first go to Yahoo! Search and in the dialog box type in "field of strategy game"(uppercase not needed). The first search results page should show a link to FOS2 and the TPGames start page. Clicking on that link will take you to that page where you will see the download link you need. Another link you will see there is the one to the FOS2 forums in English and French(the FOS2 creator and forums moderator is French). After you try out the game you can sign up for the English forums and, I hope, keep me some company. A lot of people have been signing up for the FOS2 forums in the past several weeks but it looks like they are all going to the French forums, which makes enough sense when you consider that this game has previously gotten very litle publicity outside France. Well, anyway, good luck and enjoy!!

Hi,

I won't delete this post (until further verification), the freeware seeming to be a a wargame, however we usually like people willing to do some shameless advertising to first take part in in the life of our community and post more than one message. Question of respect, ya know... :grr:

I would. The same person has been posting at least 10 message boards (probably many more). That makes the post above spam. Spam about a wargame perhaps (I'm not about to download it to find out whether its a virus or legitimate) - but still spam.

No Disrespect Intended

I didn't mean to put anybody off in any way with the above post. I have had the game in my system since the summer and while there are bugs - the game isn't perfect, but then how many games are? - I haven't had a virus or comparably serious problem as a result of FOS2(which certainly is, if nothing else, a wargame). I wonder about how you define spam - my idea is the flooding of one online location with a lot of identical or nearly identical content. I should also mention here that I am merely a player of the game and I just wanted to let other people know about it, since it appears that not too many people in the English-speaking parts of the international wargame community previously knew about this game. I have no direct connection whatsoever with the creator of FOS2, if that helps at all to resolve anybody's concerns. It gets lonely at the English forums to the point where I often feel like I am having a solo conversation and I was merely trying to do something to alleviate the situation. I do intend to post about BOA very soon since I have issues that I would like to have answered. Meanwhile, I tried to do this within the forum guidelines and post in the appropriate location and I think I did just that. What anyone choses to do with the information is, of course, entirely up to them. I for one would be quite pleased were the situation reversed and someone told me about a freeware game like this one and I have gotten some positive feedback elsewhere online in consequence. I hope, therefore, that you won't remove my first post based on your initial reactions to it. Please show restraint - that is all I ask.

Look up Spam; more specifically Forum Spam.

There is a reason why at least one forum where you posted this exact same message deleted it out of hand; it is a simple matter of net-etiquette.

If I may step in, I do not think that we should start a flame war here. The referenced game (FOS) is indeed a freeware wargame, legit, rather interesting in concept (modules ranging from the operational to tactical, several scenarios, medieval to modern warfare, etc), although a little "crude" (hey, it is free :innocent: ). The developer is a fellow frenchman, and I truely believe the poster is absolutely well intentioned in his purposes.

Peace :coeurs:

I agree, first intention was good even if the manner is debatable for a first post.
However why does this game is named Field of Strategy 2 (FOS2?) although it is referenced as FOS ( FOS1) ?

Free Ware?

I beleive we should be supporting AGEOD and its wonderful games; and, we should be playing them. News about a "crude free game" seems to be outside the spirit of supporting Pocus and company. IMHO T :cwboy:

Hey! this is not like marriage!! :niark:
I'm sure even Pocus plays games he hasn't developed... well, at least he would like to if he could find time...
Anyhow, for the looks of this FOS 2 it would not be in my Top 100 of "games i would love to play if i had more free time..." :siffle:

Cheers!

He posted in the correct, off-topic gamer forum. Wargamers who love all of Aegod's games also love knowing about any other wargame on the market -- especially when they're free.

In fact, I downloaded the game based on his initial post and see some potential. Many of the scenarios are very elementary, but others could be worthy in future versions.

Indeed, General Discussion is the place where you can speak about other wargames you like. I do. :innocent:
