A few questions

Mon Apr 17, 2006 1:56 pm

I recently got the game and find it great. I have completed '55 CG (UK) and '75 CG (US) both with 1.05 and am now playing '75 CG US with 1.06. I have some questions which hopefully someone can help with.

How are the marines different from regular troops? Are they just for flavour or do they have a particular function?

I notced that leaders are promotable, but have yet to find one that can be promoted. Is leader promotion found in some scenerios that I have not played or is there a mechanism for promoting?

Why is the Marblehead regt also a leader (John Glover)? Although I must admit, sometimes the Marblehead/Glover unit can be useful.

On the unit tooltip, which displays unit posture, entrenching and ambushing, I noticed that sometimes there is another box. What is this for? Is it for inside a city or fort?

Thanks

There are a few Germans on the British side, regiments with an attached leader. Very useful, as using a regiment with no leader suffers a 50% command penalty.

I think you are referring to the new text explaining ZOC. If you're in a ZOC, it displays the value of control you need in another province to be able to move. For example, if you're sieging Stanwick, you can't move to Dayton if you don't have >= control% displayed in the tooltip.

For Marines, check the detailed Pop Up on the right hand side for details of their capabilities. I believe they are different than Regulars.

I don't know about promotable leaders, but I think that a leader with the "Training Officer" ability can somehow improve the training of units under his command. A "master driller" can train some units each month. I"m not quite sure how to do this on either count, but it's in the appendix of the manual.

Now that I've tackled the first tries on both campaigns and several of the scenarios, I'm starting to kick the tires and look under the hood of this game to really get into these strategies. (I'll bet these cliches don't translate very well into French).

Good question. Are any leaders promotable?
As for John Glover and the German commanders built into regiments, would i be right in saying that it because they were historically only with/in command of those units?
