Work wanted here...

Tue Dec 11, 2007 9:03 pm

Pocus:
I would like to offer my skills as a proofreader for the database files where needed. I have found many simple typos (Vrown Point, IN instead of Crown, Albermale instead of Albemarle, etc.) in the region database.
Would this be something I could do separate or is it somehow interrelated to all the other database files or map files?

As this stuff is sort of a pet peeve with me, it would only serve me right to have to fix it, no? :niark:

Well, let me know if I can put my proof-sleuthing skills to work for you!
Sincerely,
Paul West, aka Pdubya64

If the work involves adding a city or port or renaming them, this is in the regions.xls file, which is then pasted in the cities tab of each scenario (and then you regenerate it, a not overly complicated process).
If you propose an historical, turnkey, work on this kind of feature, this can be made official.
But you have to understand that I won't commit more time than the one needed for some mails for this kind of work for AACW now. Modding is encouraged, but it should not lead me to burn the hours I have to spend to VGN.
So turnkey solutions or unofficial mods only.

And then sometimes modified by hand, based on the needs of a specific scenario. Hence the different city files in the "includes" folder.

theorically yes, this is why the regions.xls file is to be viewed as the master one, but practically I don't think there are differences between scenarios...

I just compared the first 2 in the folder using VisCompare and there are lots of differences. Should I check all the others, won't take but a few minutes.

I understand. Sounds like it would be best to wait until after GL's work and the next patch are done. It would probably take that long to get familiar with the process and the latest database files anyway.
Thanks for the feedback.

I recently went thru all the vanilla scenario database files and standardized them for Pocus, with regard to the Transport Levels and Civilization Levels, but they are for the next update when it comes out. This had to be done because of the different scenarios having RR linkage problems due to the differing TransportLvl settings.

If Pocus does not change the version number, they'll be identified with a 1.07i instead of 29c appended to the end.

Thank you

Gray, could you please explain a little better the relation between your fix and 1.07i ?. I have installed you previous fix over 1.07h, and works like a charm. I do not know if installing now 1.07i over your fix is ok or if it is better to start anew with a clean install. Your latest fix, dated 12/12 I presume was not included in 1.07i, am I correct ?
And when the xmas patch comes out, how will be the compatibility ?

Again, thank you very much for your amazing work :gardavou:

Gary, have you worked on the railroad system in Texas and Louisiana yet?

The railroad maps I have seen indicate the connecting railroads between Louisiana and Texas didn't exist. The removal of those rails should have an interesting impact on gameplay as they allow a single force to rapidly defend both Texas and Louisiana.

Just curious if you have gotten around to them yet or not.

Ok, I went ahead and redid the railroads in Louisiana/southern Mississippi per the goverment RR maps of civil war Louisiana here http://memory.loc.gov/cgi-bin/map_item.pl.

The image at the bottom shows the changes.

Railroad from Opelousas, La to Baton Rouge, La removed.
Railroad from Baton Rouge to Springfield, La and Clinton, Ms removed.
Railroad from Clinton, Ms to Bell, MS removed.
Railroad added from Opelousas, La to Vermillion, La to Berwick, La.

I have added translinks from Opelousas to Vermillion, La to Berwick, La.
I have removed translinks matching the removed railroads.

Actually the railroad from Tx to Opelousas goes to Vermillion instead of Opelousas. However in terms of game play, there is no difference so I didn't change the graphics.

On the image below, red indicates removed rails. I forgot to put a red line for the removed railroad from Baton Rouge to Clinton, Ms. White indicates added rails. Blue indicates where the actual path of the railroad from Tx to Vermillion. The yellow indicates a railroad that should be removed. But again, creating the blue railroad and removing the yellow railroad has no impact on gameplay and so I left it alone.

Gary, if you want to test the changes and confirm the changes, it may save you some work.

The skill and dedication you show in your work on these railroad updates are impressive, to say the least. Well done! :)

Hello and Happy Holidays Gray!

Just curious about how your railroad work would mesh with the new v1.08 patch released this afternoon. (yeah I know, no patience!)
Do we need to wait?
Thanks,
pw

Hello Gray

Do you think that your latest update (2512) is compatible with 1.08a ?

Thanks
