Vista Not Picking Up

Fri Dec 07, 2007 5:21 pm

I have Windows Vista and it will not install. It does not automatically open, I cannot install it by clicking on the install from my computer, but it does register the CD and contents. Any thoughts?

THank you,

Helop

Are You using some resident spyware blocker like"spybot S&D"? If so, try to deactivate it and then install the game. Spybot, in its "resident watch"-mode (I use the german version and don't know how it is called in english exactly) prevents some Installers from changing your computer's registry without bothering to tell You (no popup-window, no error message).

Regards, Henry :)

No. I have PC-cillin Internet Security, but I disabled it and it still will not load.

Even stranger...when I try to install it...it freezes the computer. I have to shut down the entire computer.

For Vista be sure to have administrator privilege. Also try to run off-line without any security program.

What do you mean by "Run Offline?" If you mean having the Virus program off, then that has been done. I also have administrator privileges.

Sorry, I have Vista (Home Premium) on my new machine, too (and at times still hate it), but it never gave me any problems with installing games, including AACW, yet. So I'm afraid, I'm a bit at a loss here, sorry...

Perhaps my experience of this problem may help a bit. I had the same symptoms as the above poster when I tried to install it. I got round it by copying the setup file to my hard drive and running it from there, though it did install very slowly. If that hadnt worked I would have tried running it with the User Account Control turned off as that often causes problems with games installing. I know Vista's built in cd packet writing software can play havoc with reading certain games discs and stops some starforce protected discs from being read too.

I had problems installing some games with XP - I located the problem not to the OS in question but to Microsoft Office 2003 and Word in particular - found that install bug with those games cleared up after I updated my office software!
I dont know if this will help you in this situation. The error message I kept getting was - could not locate some file blah blah and so on! But all the installation errors were down to fact that a readme file could not be found - dont know why that would interfere with installations but it did!
