Which will be your first campaign?

The game is almost upon us, and while most of us will first play through the tutorials, people are probably already thinking about what campaign to play in their first "real" game.

The list of campaigns is (according to the announcements):
Austerlitz (1805)
Trafalgar (1805)
Iéna (1806)
Friedland (1807)
Danube (1809)
Russia (1812)
Germany (1813)
France (1814)
Waterloo (1815)
Spain (1808-1814)
Invasion of England starting from the camp of Boulogne.

Myself, I love the book War and Peace, so Russia would be a logical choice, but I think I may try Danube first, followed by Germany 1813 and/or Austerlitz.

Slow PBEM would admittedly be kind of up my alley.

Currently I'm fighting a desperate battle for putting up a german manual formatted and ready as PDF until DL-release (although I can already hear the whooshing sound of this deadline as it flies by ), but after that I shall change my avatar back to the Duke of Wellington and be ready to play any campaign in which he is participating (as well as resume my two remaining AACW-PbEMs that are currently put on hold)...

I will play the Austerlitz 1805 Campaign first, since it should be a fairly straightforward scenario and allow me to ease into the new game. After that I guess the logical choice for me will be Iena 1806. After that, I am liable to tackle anything. My main PBEM opponent is British, so I just know that he will want to play Britain in the Spain 1808-14 Campaign and I will be stuck with France. Hopefully, I can whip my Marshals into being cooperative and kick "perfidious Albion" out of the Peninsula.

France 1814, much like the German 1813 campaign are unfortunately one of the "underdone" scenarios of Napoleonic era. My guess could only be that 1814 would be too one-sided - at least on paper, and 1813 too complex for most with its hundreds of thousands of troops.

I want to try them chronoligically, so that means 1805 will be the lead off batter.

that one (those oneS...) in which the WIF ("What If" Factor = Why We are Here... ) is more sizzling for every grognard like us.
I mean: those in which something went bad, in which strategic - and not tactical or "random" - factors played a decisive role into our Emperor's defeat.
e.g.: Waterloo would (and will) be the last one, while Russia, Germany and Spain very interesting.

The two really hard mini-campaigns (for the French player at least) are 1812 one (30 turns) and Peninsular War (295 turns !). Veteran players should try them necessarily...

But before you may want to see the 3 tutorials :

2) Command chain
3) Combat with the new RoE (rules of engagement).

I've been planning to start with 1805 (Ulm-Austerlitz), a few games with both sides to get a hang of things. Only after that other scenarios, probably 1815 among the first, but also looking forward to 1813 as the Coalition.

Oddly, I can imagine all campaigns being fun on either side. I am not really set on one side or the other. Both sides have their own unique challenges.

The russian campaign...

Always liked that one for some reason. Maybe it's the long pursuit and the possible what-ifs such as russia opting for full battle towards the beginning of the campaign.

Beginning with "short" campaigns first in order to discover the game progressively, with preference to earlier ones befores latest ones to respect time evolution.
So 1805 Austerlitz is the natural first campaign.
And for fun, try to debark the French Army on the British coasts in the Trafalgar scenario !

Funny thing is that real Waterloo was concluded after 1 turn, from crossing the border to Napoleon's defeat...

Leipzig the battle of the nations this is the one for me!France pushed on all sides by the largest concentration of manpower the allies could muster,i think even thou napoleon lost in this campaign he showed some of his brillance,with such a small army towards the end he repulsed blucher then the austrians in the dfence of paris.The allies doctorine of non-engagement unless they could combine at least 2 armys on napoleon showed how much they feared this man.
