Performance with 512MB Ram?

Sat Nov 03, 2007 11:02 am

I know the specs for this game read 1024MB Ram but has anyone had success playing with 512mb?

Would pre-caching the map help?

Thanks,
Adam.

I think I'm ready for a whole new rig.

But on a positive note, I installed the demo and its is running like silk - though very slow to get to the scenario selection screen.

I'm running my P4 2.8 with a 128mb nVidia GeForce Ti4200 8x AGP. It's been a card that has purred for me time and time again :coeurs:

See how I go. As I just can't fathom Forge of Freedom at all, this will likely be the ACW strategy game for me.

If you don't want to buy a new rig just yet try an extra 512 it will cost you peanuts and you may get another year or more out of your PC. It will be a huge improvement. I did this a year or two ago and I couldn't believe the difference in some games (BoA and World of Warcraft to name just two). Cost me £20 and took 5 minutes to install.

However 6 months later I bought a new PC as my graphics card was not up to Oblivion but it you are happy with games like AACW then it is probably worth just adding another 512 rather than changing PC.

If you do get a new PC I would advise 2048MB from my own experience (unless you can afford even more).
Cheers, Chris

Easier and cheaper just to buy the RAM! If you are going to pre - cache then I suggest you go put kettle on before every turn - either that or go to the pub?

I have been running the program on 512, unfortunately. It works, but it is very slow.

I am running this game, hell every game, on my 2 year old HP Pavilion dv8000 laptop. It does have a 1 gig of memory though and a good enough video card to run most games except the most demanding, new ones on high settings.

I've got the full game installed now - very happy I do too.

It's running fine on my 512mb Ram desktop but can get jerky when trying to scroll to extreme ends of the map. I think getting the map into cache first by scrolling around before play will help.

I've also got it loaded on my 1gb Ram laptop - with integrated graphics - and it is doing very well there.

Looking forward to BoA Gold. I am now willing to invest some good time into these 2 games.

Hoping to be very happy for a while :hat:
