I do agree wholeheartedly with all the praise that is being heaped upon AGEod and its excellent design and development team. AACW is indeed an impressive product. The attention to details and historical feeling (if not accuracy) is immense. I have played war games since the seventies (previous century!) and still foster fond memories of weekends in which I sent my girlfriend - still my wife! - to my in-laws - to play SPI's monster game War Between the States and later VG's ACW. This same feeling of exhiliration now returns when I start playing AACW.

What I find wonderful is the organizational tasks the player has to tackle in order to build victorious armies. In a way I am more like McClellan than like Grant: I hate to commit my beautiful new armies to battle. The naval part is the best in any ACW game yet.

The AI is good - not particularly brilliant. As the Union, my favourite side, I do not feel really outmanoevred by the rebs. But reaching the same level of operational brilliance as Jackson and Lee achieved in their campaigns is probably impossible for any machine intelligence. It would require the gauging of the human player's psychological state. (And then, there should always be PBEM.)

But the very best thing of the game is this all pervading feeling of everything being just right and everything being authentic.

Just to take it one step further: why not outfit this engine for the First World War? In my opinion it would be better fit to that conflict than to the Napoleonic wars. At this moment there is just NO GOOD WWI computer game.

Not to go off topic but . . . I've enjoyed Frank Hunter's Guns of August quite a bit.

Ditto. I GoA is great, as is AACW. I love them both.

Since I have discovered the game (thanks to GamersGate), downloaded the demo, played it to death, and finally purchased the full version - no more than 72 hours have passed (really) and I cannot speak of the game in better words than Cetacea. This game is the Holy Grail of strategic wargames!

Great work, AGEOD - I can't wait for the Napoleonic game, since ACW is not my favourite period (but with your game I'm even starting to like it).

pleasing words for the team, thanks all :coeurs:

We are doing a 1850-1920 simulation game, called Vain glory of Nation, which will have WW1 in it, but don't expect it before Q4 2008. Napoleon's Campaigns is for Q4 2007.

I feel the need to pile on here...

I can only echo the thoughts of the previous posters as I too have been waiting for decades for a strategic simulation of the Civil War that was worth playing. Many have tried, but this game is a stunning achievement.

My hat is off to the entire team and I sincrerely thank you for the many hours of sheer pleasure I've already had playing this brilliant game.

You guys rock!

Yes, for the first time I like a computer game more than some of my old board games. I've been continuing to play FTP for years, but I'm finding this is pulling my attention away. Quite a feat.

With the refinements of v1.07 and continuing, I just want to hoot the horn once more.

Outstanding job!

I've never played a game of this type before. But I've always had an idea in the back of my mind what a realistic wargame should be. This is the best realization of real war principles that I've ever seen.

I'm making lots of blunders. Like having my units run out of supply, or lose all cohesion because I order them to march across muddy hills in winter, and so forth. Wow! Realism like I've never seen in a game before. It will take a while before I get a good grasp on all these aspects.

The AI is outstanding! It actually masses its forces and attacks! How rare is that in a computer game? Eventually any AI will become predictable and we'll switch to PBEM. It makes some very silly moves, but some very good moves as well. This game has a lot of replayability before the AI becomes too boring.

Great Job!
Thanks,
Mangudai

More praise from another old grognard. I've been playing every sort of game especially wargames since I badgered my parents to get me France 1940, and Richtofhen's War when I was 12. This is a great game. It has tremendous depth and still remains relativly approachable. It is by far the best serious full on computer simulation of the Civil war to date.

I'd also like to say that your community support is nothing short of amazing. You are fast to fix problems, still adding features, and are not afraid to utilize the talents of your modding community.

Americans tend to have a sterotypical and unflattering idea about the French, believing them to be arrogant and rude, and I have to say that your company is in every particular the opposite of this.

Thanks a lot for a excellent game, I look forward to all your future games.

Not this American. My family has had nothing but wonderful experiences with the French in both America (we live near Michelin North American HQ) and in France (both Paris and Nothern and Southern areas).

Amazing country, culture and people.

But I do have to agree that AGEOD just gave the French a big bonus factor...well, maybe not in the eyes of my wife.

Got the game about three weeks ago and I'd just like to add my praise. What a game this is. My only criticism is that Football Manager 2008 has just been released and I don't seem to have enough hours in the day to play both games. Oh, and I don't think my wife is too pleased with AGEOD.

What do I do when Napoleons Campaigns is released!!!!!!!

Great job

Not since the early days of playing Victoria has a game challenged my abilities and imagination to such a wonderful extent.

As a late-comer to the community, please allow me to express my appreciation to all involved in the making of this wonderful distraction.

I've yet to see a negative feedback...plea for a refund, none ever complained about something...is this magic? :)

I secretly started a pbem and we're exchanging 4 turns a day :)

The AI is a credible opponent but a human opponent is something more...ird & Relee no matter how entusiasthic you are now...when you win a battle against a human opponent you'll really soar the skies! :) :) :)

Yes, I will be looking at PBEM once I consider myself competent at the game.

By the way, is there a release date for BOA Gold and how good is the game?? I know I'm in the wrong forum for this really but I thought I'd ask while I'm posting this

I bought this game in a two for #25 deal last weekend. I haven't even taken the other game out of its box despite it being my absolute favourite period (Napoleonic Wars). I've also been neglecting Football Manager. At least the rent is on direct debit :)

Hats off to Pocus and team. A double hats off to the beta testers, I have to do it for work from time to time and suspect you're all raging masochists.

Well, time for me to see if I can convince that scoundrel McClellan that he really should move on Richmond at some point this year. :bonk:

As a military history buff, I tend to go through "phases". This game has inaugurated a new ACW phase for me and my buddy.

This game was designed with such love, care and historical detail, it makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. Thanks guys, my money was well spent. I look forward to purchasing your games in the future.

Yup - I watched Gettysburg and Gods & Generals last night. AACW is without any doubt the pinnacle of PC Strategy/History gaming. And the patches? Brilliant customer support. You have built a real community here! :coeurs:

Wanted to throw in some thanks and congrats on a wonderful game also. I just recently bought it and spend almost the entire weekend playing it. I haven't been that engrossed in a game in years. Fantastic job all the way around. The moment when Divisions and Army organization finally clicked for me was one of the best gaming moments I'd had. I now find myself contemplating different Divisions/Corps/Armies all day and plotting things out.

I can see myself enjoying this one for a long time.

Thanks a bunch for all the work, and to the community as well, because without all the great threads and guides available on here and the Wiki I'd have been completely lost.

just wanna add my praises to the devs for this work if art. had the game for a couple of weeks now and although the learning curve is massive i feel like im gettin there bit by bit.

the pace of the game is perfect (2 week turns) and im really lookin forward to startin my 1st ever pbem game. the great thing is that it wont take years to finish a campaign unlike some other recently released (EIA) games.

as soon as the boxed version of NC is released in the uk in may il buy that as well

I bought the game a couple of weeks ago, and have been very impressed with my purchase. It's like ACW:total war but without the 3d battles, which is a nice change of pace. I hope comparing it to total war is a great compliment.

Thanks to all those that help make it, and make it better :hat:

Praise to AACW is well deserved, indeed, although I believe you will find it has much more strategic "meat" than the TW games, to say the least :king:
But if you like 3d battles, you should really try the game Take Command; 2nd Manassas - wonderful tactical game in ACW context

You said it exactly..I've been waiting all my computer life or a game like this.

Are there things I would change if I could?...you bet...like having all the states out of the Union during the first of April '61 instead of only the Gulf Squadron...and things like that...but you can bet I ain't about to come off as a complainer by listing each and every one. I consider myself very lucky that we now have one this good. You see I tried all the other attempts and...well... :non: ...you know what I mean.

Hello stars&bars,

If you thought Take Command Bull Run was very good, you should see the result of Take Command 2nd Manassas. :)
The modding community has made Maps, which includes Fredricksburg with its own scenarios, other scenarios, Uniform sprites are available
as add-ons that brings the game up to top notch.
Hop over the MMG Message Boards and check out the TC2M Modders Corner for released mods and to see what is in the future....
Also check out the TC2M AAR section for pictures of battles on some of the newly made maps...

Hi, I have seen pictures of TK:2nd manassas on Youtube, it still looks a good game. Although its hard enough to put AGEOD's ACW down :niark:
