---> Map Update <---

Wed Mar 22, 2006 6:55 pm

Here:

http://ageoddl.telechargement.fr/BoA_Map_Update104.exe
We went with the heavy (full) version to avoid problems, so it weights a mere 180 Mb, but you get all the regions updated. :siffle:

http://ageoddl.telechargement.fr/BOA_MapUpdate_1.04.exe

The archive should propose you the right path, which is

c:\program files\Birth of America\BoA\Graphics\Regions

You have to change the bold part if you installed in the non default dir.

What does this map update do:

This is the compressed bitmaps of the map, with additionals fords and bridges, to better understand where you can cross rivers at a lower movement cost.

The update is 100% compatible with all saved games and all BoA versions: it is only made of bitmaps, no game, code, data changes.

I can't tell what is a ford and what is a bridge.

there is no ford, I saw one once, but it seems they have been replaced. I think the difference is now between minor river ferry/bridge and major river ferry/bridge. PhilThib will perhaps drop a line on that, as he modified the terrain matrix for this new rule.

Ohhh. I got to check the map when I get home. I don't remember that ferry symbol, but I may have only missed it. I have only the original MapUpdate, which you say is the same.

For those of us who are stuck with dial ups, in the future could you break up those big patches into smaller segments? Say 60 Mb or so? Thanks.

56k modem

Is this new map in the latest CD of the game? I just ordered on Monday. Hopefully the new map is included.

I am stuck in the boondocks for now. DSL doesn't exist here. I imagine it would take days to do a 180 Meg download. If it is possible to break the map down into smaller segments, it would certainly help those with only a 56K modem.

hi again,

here is the minimal map update (17 Mb, hope it will be ok for you):

http://ageoddl.telechargement.fr/BOA_Bridges_Ferries104.zip

This is an archive with a bunch of region bitmaps. Extract the whole in the following directory:

Birth of America\BoA\Graphics\regions

This link no longer works. Is the map update still available somewhere? And if so, where can I find it?

Edit: Weird. I quoted the link and then clicked on the quoted link and got a working link. :)

Thanks,

Alanb

If I've already installed the 1.04 & 1.04b patches, do I still need to install this update if I want to have the latest map changes?

yes, the smaller one is a manual installer with only the changed bitmaps, whereas the whole is the automatic one with all the map.

Update required?

Sun May 21, 2006 8:25 pm

Sorry for asking this, but does the Map Update 1.04 do anything if I just purchased the game (version 1.02) via download, then patched to 1.06.1?

Thanks!

A little update just to add a river near Frontenac. You may change youself the files now if you want (Regions directory).

Is the map update part of the 1.08 update or seperate? If it isn't will adding the map update to the 1.08 game update hurt anything?

Thanks. :indien:

The map update was 180 meg.
The 1.08 update is 13 meg.
How can the 1.08 update contain the map update?

If you have bought the game online past 1.04, the updated map (with additional fords and ferries) is in the full install.

The patch that put the version to 1.08 only contains (map-wise speaking) the update on Frontenac.

If you buy the boxed version or have bought the game online before may, then you need the full map update.

Hi! I am new here. Just recently bought the game (awesome game - great work!). I've installed the 1.10d patch, and am just wondering if the map update is included in the 1.10d patch? Or shall I download this map update and apply it also?

Thanks!

Welcome. :)

Take a look to the post above yours. :niark:
If the initial version of your game is newer or equal to 1.04, the big map update is already included. The 1.10d contains the update on Frontenac.

Well it says "If you buy the boxed version or have bought the game online before may, then you need the full map update."

I have the boxed version with the latest patch.

So it seems that you need the big map update.

These files are not in the 1.10d included.
