River blockades

Sat Aug 04, 2007 12:07 am

I am trying to prevent railroad movement across a river. Can it be done? I put in the number of ships listed to blockade the river section but the trains appeared to pass right through the river blockade.

Then I noticed that the number of ships needed to blockade the river went up. First it said 4 ships. I put in 4 ships, then it said I needed 2 more. I have noticed this in trying to blockade ocean harbors as well. First stating you need x number of ships and then at some point, stating I need some more ships. Is this a bug or is it related to cohesion level of the ships or something?

Were some of the ships transports? I seem to recall they wouldn't count for blockade purposes.

No, these were all warships.

The "number" is how many ship units you need to blockade ports exiting into that river region. When blocking for movement purposes, it should be enough with 1 (combat) unit. However, I don't if posture matters, and I don't know if it might be necessary to block multiple river regions in some cases.

The increase in numbers of ships required to blockade is due to the fact that a artillery unit was moved into the target city. This additional protection to blockade runners means additional blockade support is needed.

Ahhh...Thanks! That explains it.

I am about to try it again. I will ask my opponent if the ships in attack mode are preventing movement across the river.
