Will there be an expansion?

Sat Sep 03, 2016 12:35 am

With the five campaigns listed on the main menu, including two variants of the complete set of wars, I am wondering if any more small scenarios are planned. One of the reason I hold a special fondness for the original Napoleon's Campaigns was the game coming in bite-size chunks a lot of the time.

Will there be a scenario for Russia?

We have plans for those in case the game's overall sales are good enough

I really think you should do more small scenarios - like the original WIA. Of course there's a group of people who like monster games that take days or weeks, but there's a lot of people who like to be able to play a game in a couple of hours.

Small scenarios also make quality control easier.

Fully agrees. I don't even have time myself for longer campaigns :D

1. Fix the #@FD memory leak.
It causes units to "Spawn." i.e., large numbers of Fortress Battery, Costal Guns, Supply Depots, and other units in places they could never get to following the rules of the game.
It causes depots to appear in places they never could be built.
I know you try to blame this on the AI, but when the Ottomans have depots in nearly 20% of Sweden's regions {The Ottoman were not at war or allied with Sweden, so how could the AI build depots there. Unless you are telling me the AI ignores the rules of the game.} {I think Vicburg finally figured out the random depot building was due to the memory leak and not the AI which is the reason he gave up on his mod. Which is too bad because his mod is a lot better than your “Historical” events that give wildly un-historical results}
It causes leaders to disappear without any message in the log.
It causes the Diplomacy screen to lag so bad it becomes nearly impossible to use to select any action and "OK" it.
It causes the RGD screen to lag so bad it becomes nearly impossible to use to select and place a "Card".
It causes the Build screen to lag so bad it becomes nearly impossible to select and order units to be built.
It causes the Reinforcement screen to lag so bad it becomes nearly impossible to order reinforcements.
It causes units to "Teleport" across the map. I turn the stack was one region from Minsk. The next turn the unit was one region from Hamburg. I am sure the unit was the same because I had targeted it with a force in Minsk and it was still targeting the unit and chasing after it.

2. Fix give money as part of Surrender. I have no idea what you think "give xxx money during yyy" years means. I have asked multiple times when you should receive the money and no one answers the question. One of the games I played that Russia surrendered to France, I kept track of the money for each turn and I could account for every $ in the "Changes from events and strategic decisions" category and other categories except for "Changes from cities income" category. I did not add the income from all the cites to confirm that value. Unless you include the money with the cities income, you never get it. I think the reason no one answers what "give xxx money during yyy" means in games terms is because you know it doesn't work but don't want to admit it.

3. Fix the "Request Expeditionary Forces" with minors. Yes, you finally fixed the game so the minors answer the request. However, when they say yes, Bavaria is the only minor that actually makes forces available. Test with some country other than Bavaria.

4. Fix the "Build Defensive Works" automatically fail. After you have done X number of "Build Defensive Works", all attempts automatically fail. It has happened in every game played that I have play that lasted least 5 years.

5. Give us an option to turn off your scripted events. Almost all of them give wildly unhistorical results.
a. Saxony Switches Sides.
In August, Prussia declares war on Bavaria, an ally of France. France answers the call and by November had pushed the Prussian and Saxony forces out of Bavaria and Saxony and into Prussia. France had built two separate supply changes from France through Saxony without using any Saxony cites because France was planning to winter at the Saxony border and restart operations after winter. In mid November, Saxony Switches Side event happens. Saxony "retakes" all their cites. France takes a huge "National Morale" hit for losing the Saxony cites. The Saxon armies reappear in their cites at their pre-war strength. All the French depots are converted to Saxon depots. Military Control is changes to Saxony at 100%. Saxony's diplomatic rating with France is set at -50 and no treaties are in place. France is now in Prussia in late November with a hostile re-armed country between its Army and its supply bases. What to do. The event says Saxony switches sides so I sit tight one turn and offer them an alliance. What does Saxony do? It declares war on France.

In what way is this "Saxony Switches Sides?" This event is seriously flawed.

Historically, the Saxon troops separated themselves from the Prussian army and made their way to the French Army and starting fighting alongside them. After Prussia surrendered, France slowly transferred control back to the Saxon authorities. They did not immediately get control of their cities back. They did not confiscate the French supply lines. They did not recruit thousands of new troops.

A "Historical" event that gives wildly un-historical results.

What did I do? There was no way the French Army would survive in Prussia during the winter with no supply so I restored the previous turn, declared war on Saxony and retook the supply lines. During that month and a half it took to re-establish the French supplies during winter, the French lost more troops than they did capturing all the Austrian cites.

In the current form, this event just needs to go away. Things to do to save the event.
1. Saxony joins French Coalition. That is what happened in history. This way France can keep their depots not in Saxon cities and have access and supply rights in Saxony.
2. The event gives a National Morale bonus equal to the loss of the cites + X. Hey, you forced a country to capitulate and join your side. It should be a good thing.
3. The surviving Saxony forces should be given to France using the "Request Expeditionary Forces" process.

Let's look at the Pressburg Treaty.
In History, there was a huge battle at Ulm where the majority of the Austrian and Russian armies in the area were destroyed. Austria started peace talks right away and came to terms before France conquered their territory.
What happens in the game? Austria always declares war on Bavaria and forces France into war much earlier than what happened in history. By the time January of 1806 and the Pressburg treaty event fires, France has conquered large parts of Austria and the event makes no sense. As in history, the event must be offered before France conquers Austrian territory otherwise it makes no sense.
When the game engine “Punishes” you for accepting the event, the event is designed wrong. When the game engine takes National Morale, victory points, and reports “demonstrations in your city” because you accepted the event, it is designed WRONG.
As near as I can tell, all the events are tied to the historical timeline and unless you play the game exactly as it happened in history, the game engine punishes you if you accept them and they make no sense. Who wants to play the game exactly like it happened in history? We can just read the history book.

Let’s look at the “French Spanish” events.
Spain surrenders to England. “French Spain is formed around Madrid. It has a -50 diplomacy rating with France. The next turn it allies with England. The next turn it declares war on France. France marches their “Spanish” border army into its ally and retakes Madrid which is transferred back to its ally. France returns to its borders. And the event repeats itself every couple of years. What is this? I can only assume you are trying to set something up for Joseph to become King of Spain.
