Replacing Hits

Sat Apr 23, 2016 1:28 am

If you have Historical Attrition ON, then you can garner Replacements only at 'friendly' Depots, IIRC. If I have this right, my question is - can I 'get the red out' at non-French territory depots? Can I get Replacements in say, Ulm? What kind of relationship or diplomatic agreements must I have to get Replacements at a Depot?

I haven't seen issues with replacements anywhere on the map, TBH. I understand that the rule says you need to be on a supply depot, but with Historical Attrition, I've been seeing my troops replace everywhere.

I thought that the rule was for element replacements, hits will be recovered on the field.

Then that obviates Historical Attrition. My only real comparison is AACW/CW2, and you can get Replacements only at a Depot with H. A. ON in those games.

What's the manual say, or can the Devs give us a ruling on this?

In the end, what the program does is what the program does...

there are two types of replacements.

Replacement within an existing element can happen anywhere if the unit is in full supply. It will happen faster if you are in defensive or passive stances and/or on a depot.

Replacement of a lost element can only happen if you are on a depot - and its best/essential to be in a passive stance

Standard rules across all the AGE games :)
AJE The Hero, The Traitor and The Barbarian
PoN Manufacturing Italy; A clear bright sun
RoP The Mightiest Empires Fall
WIA Burning down the Houses; Wars in America; The Tea Wars

P. 96 from the Civil War 2 manual:

As long as an element is not totally destroyed, it may recover hits by filling its ranks with replacements drawn from the replacement pool during the Hosting phase, if the element didn’t move during a turn. This is in addition to recovering Cohesion. If you choose the Historical Attrition setting, land Units must be in a friendly Depot to receive replacements.

So my memory serves me, and there's at least one game where that isn't the case, the way I read it.

And from the WoN manual:

As long as an element is not totally destroyed, it may recover hits by filling its ranks with replacements drawn from the replacement pool during the Hosting Phase if the element didn’t move during a turn. This is in addition to recovering Cohesion. If you choose the Historical Attrition setting, land Units must be in a friendly Depot to receive replacements.

Seems there's another one, too - identical wording (a cross reference to a chapter omitted).

So, please, I see Beta Tester mentioned - I'll be happy for further clarification. The way I read it, though (seriously, AGEOD should hire me for their documentation, I'm a technical writer and a native speaker of English and know how to write a manual), you can get Replacements only at a Depot if H. A. is ON.

Seriously, I'm all ears. If what you mention is the case, then the manual needs editing for clarification.
