August 1814 AI performance update

Sun Apr 24, 2016 7:23 pm

In 1814 - august as french. game continues to run smoothly - some good ai play but a few questions.

1. note in my game napoleon died 1812 in Lisbon battle. I have played on accordingly - meaning more defensive except have continued invasion of ireland.
2. AI pluses. did a god job defending ireland invasion, but i finally won. will try to attack scotland now.
AI plus - general handling of spain. kept me busy - took advantage of any lapse. but after driving me out of everything but Catalonia, they have stopped attacking.
AI plus. Austrians and russians attacking me all over - trying to defend Rhine line - but by august 1814 they are breaking thru. they overwhelmed poland in 1813. they are coming thru N italy, Switzerland and germany.
3. ai questions.
main point was that Prussia russia and austria never took any action from the ai. france was at peace with the 3 in 1812 and kept that way until i dow'ed them just to get them going. i didnt invade russia (without napoleon) maybe thats why they kept at peace but i think it would be better to give an option that they attack .
another observation is that prussia is actually at war with Austria - and have been reduced lots so they are not in the attack - nor is there any sign of the brits.
I guess what im saying is that there should be some kind of optional trigger that causes the alliance to attack france - no matter what .

anyway - still think the ai is doing well for a challenging game - subject to some self restraint on the players part.
ps one other point that was raised by someone else - it does seem that the french fleet does better as the game goes on. for example ive combined the dutch fllet with france in Brest and am winning battles - which is why i was even able to lnd in ireland. i think some of the british fleet is not reinforcing the fleet off brest.

That is interesting, thanks for sharing. I think you are the only one here who has managed to get this far in the game. So, you need to provoke the AI?

yes it seemed i had to provoke the ai to start the historical attack of the alliance after 1813. but like i said i dont play the AI to "win" i kind of self restrict my moves to realistic tactics. so im ok with the game - enjoying the game - and playing alot - as shown by being in august 1814 - will continue to report on AI at end game.
ps I didnt mean to offend anyone by posting a commemoration of april24th 1916 in ireland. yes im irish but for war gaming im always interested in exploring ireland options in historical scenario.
could the french invaded sometime . or the germans in ww1 or for that matter in ww2. im not talking about d day type action. but clearly all could have done something. and thats what i like about war games - try it and see what happens!

I hope I've haven't offended you by my suggestion to move the post to the EAW thread, it just seemed more appropriate there, due to the timeframe. The Easter Rising is a fascinating subject; I studied it last year, along with the Irish Civil War, as part of my History degree.

Which is why for a DLC for WoN, the Revolutionary Wars would be ideal for you - Wolfe Tone invading on French Ships?

But it would be kinda cool if Ageod put those characters into the game, say maybe from 1793 onwards. Much is good about the game (AI needs improvement), best Napoleonic game on a PC I have played. So much potential.
