Turn times compared to TEAW?

Tue Mar 01, 2016 2:01 pm

I'm looking to buy a new AGEOD game and I'm thinking about either TYW or WON. But, I was wondering how the turn times are compared to TEAW.

And if you got time, why should I buy WON over TYW?

Thanks!

Really? 26 views and nobody can say shorter/equal/longer? To make it clear, after the update on TEAW, the turn times aren't that bad anymore. I just want to know beforehand if it's going to be longer for WON, you see.

Depends on where you at in the game and what battle animation setting you have. In 1915 turns, I can see up to 10 minutes for a turn in TEAW but that's at high battle animation and multi-player, so everyone is moving or otherwise doing something.

Turns in WON can be 1 minute and upwards of 5 minutes per turn.

In other words, roughly comparable depending on what's going on and settings.

IMO, I love TEAW but that is with Altaris Ultimate MOD and multi-player only for that mod. Altaris added trenches into the game. I've found that the trenches in base game (entrenchment in reality) aren't enough to provide the feel of western front warfare and it's too easy to blow through the front lines.

Just my opinion

If you are playing against the AI, TYW has shorter processing time because there are not a lot of stacks involved in the game; WON turns take my old computer no more than 5 minutes to process and usually much quicker than that; it's much shorter than PON and really shouldn't bother anyone.

I would definitely recommend WON over TYW. I like the time period in TYW, but I prefer grand strategy games and there are few stacks involved in that game. I haven't come close to playing through it, but I spent too much time moving 2-4 small stacks around Central Europe.

WON, on the other hand, has small "starter" scenarios all the way up to a massive Grand Strategy Campaign. I feel more like a 5-star general in this game even playing the smallest scenario as I am moving a lot of troops around with numerous allies and enemies involved.

I will agree with vicberg to a degree. TEAW is a fantastic game and a lot of fun to play. However, I do enjoy playing against the AI for starters as it is an immense game in it's own right. He is right that trench warfare could have been improved to get a more historical feel for the game but it does have a great ebb and flow to warfare on the western front. I highly recommend this game before buying WON, but both are excellent, IMO.

Thanks for the replies, guys! I decided to buy WON when I get my next paycheck. The deciding factor being that it's much bigger in scale. I didn't realize you only had a few stacks in TYW. I want something more like TEAW in that regard. In the meantime I have started playing TEAW again and hopefully will get better at it before buying WON.

I've never seen a turn in WON in just 1 minute (if vs AI)
