AFAIK, most of the Alliance/Minors fixes in Feb 17 patch won't affect games already started in earlier patch, where the issues already occured.
Yes it's an ongoing game. I know the devs are doing their best and i report the issues I face not to rub it in but so that they know which things to target. tbh after 80 turns I don't want to start afresh again. like many others I have a job that means long hours (sure I can post on the forum from time to time), family and all which means that my playing time is limited. On an evening with free time I can do 10 turns, 30 on a weekend if the weather is poor. So the game I am talking about was started about the 5th of feb right after the penultimate patch came out.
Issues that still need to be addressed (not mentionned in the 17th feb betapatch) are :
- Some minors shouldn't only be releasable by the french or via event : French Spain, Duchy of Warsaw, RHC, Westphalia. There is no historical nor gameplay logic for any other power to release them so it should be made impossible for other powers to release them. Spain shouldn't be able to release french Spain, Prussia shouldn't be able to release the duchy of Warsaw, etc.
- The hierarchy of wars and "merging" of wars needs a lot of work. If Prussia wants to DOW a french ally there should be 2 cases : you can't dow a full alliance member aka a green hand with star member. you have to Dow the leader of the alliance and you can only make peace with the leader of the alliance. the full alliance member is a de facto vassal without independent official diplomacy. it can only drop out of such an alliance via event (say the Austrians occupy Munich + their moral is 50pts higher than french moral, than an event fires that makes Bavaria leave the french alliance and become a "simple" ally to Austria aka only the green hand). The green hand with star should really be limited to France and its vassals to emulate the particular relationship it established in Europe with the family system, etc.
- All other alliances, including the coalition led by Britain should use only the basic alliance system (green hand only) which would mean the following : a country can dow a country in another simple alliance withouth dowing the leader of the alliance. So if Bavaria is still only green and not green with star (which for gameplay purpose it should be) it could be dowed by Prussia and then France just has a CB with a message poping up at the beginning of the turn asking it if it wants to DOW or lose the alliance. Burt really the french alliances shouldn't work like that, only Spain is well represented by the green normal ally status at the beginning of the game.
- The fact that other alliance systems only use the normal green symbol make them more unstable and more realistic : GB leads a coalition with many other countries (Prussia, Russia, Sweden, Austria, etc) but when France declares war on one of those countries some get decide not to honor the CB, fracturing the coalition, or when Prussia declares war on France, some of the alliance member could chose to stay out of it for example.
This issue is also why Vicberg is doing his mod : the french satellite situation just isn't represented well enough in this game. there should be something specific and different for the french "bloc".
