Now, for my question: What are the numbers posted beside the grid lines, which are beside the hearts inflicted? And, hearts inflicted is what it cost my army or the other army?

Good job!
A sailor in each Division for the river crossing combat advantage and 6 to 1 advantage in artillery...I believe someone is a better warfighter than he let's on.

Aw, shucks; it twern't nuth'n

I'm not new to war games, just the AGEOD series. Why did it take so long for me to find these jewels. I'm almost tempted to buy the precursor just to relish the fun; but the graphics and layout of this game compared to the other AGEOD games is just much nicer. Good stuff! Glad I was able to buy into this family of gamers.

And, to boot, you guys are outstanding forum mates! This is perhaps the best forum I've participated in (maturity, encouragement, knowledge, etc.)!!!!

And, the presence of sailors is directly "taken" from prior counsel one of you kind fellows provided me several days back. Now, I'm trying to win again as the CSA.

Must admit it was the tortuous process of trying to create a cohesive army that made me give up on this game and it's predecessor. Went back to Gary Grigsby's ACW.

Played as Union and just found that even by 1863 CSA seemed to have more men and could go anywhere whilst Union sat around with few activations and very hard to form a sizeable force.

Typically by late 1862, I've put together several armies--yes, plagued by inactive Corp commanders. However, by fighting with great divisional commanders (Grant, Kearny, etc), they get promoted and form Corps--that stay active and win engagements. Since a general in Divisional mode cannot be recognized as a promoted 2 star, you might have generals available and not know it.

Chrisreb, did you do the tutorials? Charlesonmission has some good playthroughs online that offer more in depth lessons. Some of the actual games played in the AAR section show what's possible in a less hypothetical setting.
