Suicidal AI Behaviour? Minors Alliance Issue

Thu Feb 11, 2016 6:36 am

Hi,

Playing the Jan 1805 campaign as France; defeated Austria with no real issues and took the Peace of Pressburg in Oct 1805. Austria declared war on Bavaria, which has a full alliance with France (has had since first turn - Austria declared war on Bavaria turn 3 which started the war real early ...), six weeks after Pressburg in early Dec 1805 .....! Shouldn't Austria be at peace with France and its alliance members for a period! and surely the AI recognises that declaring war on a Minor in alliance means war with the Major nation? This does not make any sense and needs to be looked at. For your consideration.

Cheers,

AKL

This is a recurring issue : Bavaria seems to be a magnet for DOWs from Austria or Prussia which keeps precipitating them back into war with France while completely not ready... Really the engine should consider when a peace is signed with an alliance leader (as in he signs for the whole alliance) that the country is bound by the forced peace period WITH ALL members of that alliance. so after Pressburg Austria should have the 24 turns or 48 turns (can't remember) forced peace with France but also Bavaria, Berg, Kingdom of Italy, etc... And whenever a country enters the french alliance, the forced peace the alliance has are "exported" to that country. so say Baden enters the french alliance after the wedding in early 1806, it "imports" the forced peace with Austria, meaning Austria has now also a forced peace going on with Baden.

Really oughta be fixed.

From my understanding, with the latest beta patch this should not be possible.

under the latest patch I had Prussia attack Bavaria who was already in my alliance and I had to DOW them, after spanking them a bit they quickly made a separate peace in their original war giving Hamburg and Bayreuth to Bavaria, which makes no sense whatsoever, but I suppose for the engine those were 2 different wars : one with Bavaria and one with France...

Because I think the AI sees it as 2 different wars going on. The issue is how to link minors to their allied majors so that they are basically considered part of the same country for diplomacy and war purpose UNTIL something (event, loss of capital, loss of troops, bad morale, etc) makes the minor drop its alliance with the major for something else. Until then they should really be treated as part of the major for diplomatic and supply purposes.

Yup, that's the latest.

So just be clear
- You started and played the scenario on the Feb04 Beta patch?
- On turn 3 of the Jan 1805 scenario Austria DoW's Bavaria, who has a Defensive Treaty with France, who then gains a CB against Austria, whom it DoW's?
- Some time in the Fall of 1805 Austria concedes and signs the Peace of Pressburg treaty?
- While France and Austria are still subject to the Peace Treaty, Austria simply DoW'ed Bavaria, who still has a Defensive Treaty with France?

Apparently the solution is not working yet, but I know Pocus is working on this.
