Training master - questions

Wed Jan 27, 2016 1:58 pm

Training master ability provides 1 experience point every turn to all the troops in the Stack by drilling them.
I'd like to build training school for new recruits, so there are some questions:
1. Can this ability be increased when HQ units gets experience stars?
2. Does it sums up? If I gather 3 HQ units with training master level 1, will my infantry units get +3 experience points every turn?
3. Can one HQ unit with training master ability train another units with that ability? Is it worthy to keep 2 such units in one stack to train them one another?

I suppose it would depend on the characteristics of the Training School Unit. As Pocus stated, the Training Master ability itself does not level-up, so no amount of XP's will change that.

So, you could do that, but you'd end up with a training unit with a lot of experience points which basically mean nothing, other than perhaps that their cohesion would increase, but unless you are making them a combat unit at the same time, there would not be much point to it.

Well, Pocus / Captain_Orso - thank you. That settles the case.
It's so bad, the ability does not improve.

In bottom unit window text says "Training Master. (Level: 1)" but in specific element (right side) window it only says "Training Master."
So I thought I could rise it to Level:2 :)

Better to have one training master per stack. Spread the love around.

Davout is a Training Master, so his Corp HQ will get trained. But otherwise Davout being a Training Master does not do much good because all the Corp HQ's have Training Master.

Traning Master gives 1 xp per turn. How much XP does it take to bump the XP display on the unit counters 1 jump??

Is there any way to tell units are getting their xp?

With Aurelin great help of how to view the XP level of the troops, I was able to check how it worked. I was playing the Grand Campain starting in January and I wasn't moving my troops until spring time. The HeadQuarter units do train the troops one XP per turn. Two HeadQuarter units still only train the troops one XP per turn. Davout and the HeadQuarter troop increased xp by 2 per turn.

Glad I could help. Didn't know Davout and his Corps HQ stacked. That's worth knowing.

Davout and the HQ-Support unit have the exact same ability, and abilities are not cumulative. Note however, every element has a 75% chance of gaining 1 XP per turn independent of such abilities and XP gained through combat experience, but only up to EL 2.

Experience Level are shown by the stars you see in elements in the element detail window:

Over 5 turns;
1 HQ = 1 XP
2 HQ = 1 XP
1 HQ + Davout. 4 Turns 2 XP. The one turn the unit got one XP was the turn it went up a level. The unit leveled on 21 XP. It went 16,18,20,21,23 over the 5 turns.

I see:
4 turns executed.
On 3 turns XP increased by 2.
On 1 turn XP increased by 1.
On 0 turns xp increased by 3.
On 0 turns xp increased by 0.
EL gained at 20 XP, (you can confirm this with the element detail window).

Exactly as I would expect if Master Trainer ability does not stack and there is a 75% chance of an additional XP per turn.

IDK, what are you trying to get at?

Did you test this with a leader or a HQ unit?

I've tested this in CW2. In CW2 the HQ-Support unit and some leaders also have the exact same Training Master ability.

In AGEod games multiple identical-abilities have never been cumulative, stacked as Pocus calls it.

The earlier testing I did with Davout matched close enough, 4/5 times his stack went up two. The stacks with just the HQ should have also been going up two which I did not see.

I started the Grandcampain as the French and tested again.

I tested a Corp with Davout with a HQ, a Corp with 2 HQ, a Corp with 1 HQ, and Corps with 0 HQ. I also tested Divisions with a HQ and without over 5 turns. I tested 2 units from each division.

Over the 5 turns, the units with HQ averaged a 1.72 xp gain per turn => Close to the expected 1.75 based upon your formula.
Over the 5 turns, the units without an HQ a 0.725 xp gain per turn => Close to the expected 0.75 based upon your formula.

However, I had two anaomalies that I did not include.
The Artillerie Garde unit gained 2 xp per turn even though it was not in a unit with a HQ.
The two elements in the 3e Division 4c under Suchet only gained 1 xp per turn even though they were with an HQ unit.

From this test, it appears every unit {I only tested non-moving} gets a 75% chance of gaining an XP. Units in a stack with the "Training Master" trait, get an extra xp per turn. {I only tested non-moving units}

Given a 75% chance of getting an XP per turn, the chance of getting xp gain 5 times in a row is 0.25 raised to the power of 5 which is ~0.00098 and the chances of not getting an xp gain in 10 attempts is 0.25 raised to the power of 10 which 0.00000095. While this is possible, it is very improable. I suspect there must be someting special about those units concerning xp gain.

Wow...serious math.

I'm taking it that XP gain is off the charts?
