Fixing seniority & promotion

Wed Feb 03, 2016 2:09 am

Seems to that seniority and promotion is a bit bugged. For example in a current game Murat has seniority of 1, but try to give him an army to command and the tip says soult will get pissed for being passed over. So we hunt down Soult and he has seniority 1 too. So lets give him the army, I'm not fussy. Except Jourdan will get pissed and it will cost us 4 NM and 1000+ VPs (overkill?). So we hunt down Jourdan and he has seniority 4 (ideas above his station?) and Soult will get pissed off and it will cost us.
So the loop is complete and to get an Army commander will cost us as much as half the Pressburg victory points.

1) There should be a better way to view the seniority list in completeness rather than hunting around.
2) These loops shouldn't happen
3) The NM and particularly the VP loss is overkill. It should make player have to think twice before passing somebody over, but it shouldnt cost the equivilent of 20 turns of VPs for our absolute ruler to promote somebody slightly out of line. Its far too prohibitive.

I think the ACW system worked well but maybe it was due to a much smaller pool of Generals. In WoN seems very likely will be rare to force a promotion through. And from my observations for the French at least in the above example then even at seniority 1 something is broken and lower seniority generals are objecting. This is not the first time I've seen it, but the first time I've had a chance to comment

Do you have a working example of a seniority 1 leader grumbling?

I can email you one yes or where should i send the file? 10mb file so won't let me attach here. This particular turn the triangle is Murat (1) to Soult (1) to Moncey (4) and back to Soult.

How do you figure out they grumble?

My advice is to ignore them and Promote Lannes any way. Better stats and has gifted commander 2 so should provide stats bonuses to his lower rated corp commanders.

Promote the best and damm the NM and VP. :)

i confirm i had the same bug. All general 3* with preseance 1 are doing an "entire turn". A has more préseance than b.... b more than c..... c more than a... so u have always penalty message for army cretaion.I created the amry anyway. Nervertheless i dont remind if the penalty has been applied.... Perhaps only the warning message was present...

Its a 7 player PBEM so I'm quite keen not to waste hard fought NM and especially 1000VP to promote a seniority 1 commander when its clearly not the intention of the game design.
Lannes is 3 initiative, not sure he'll make a good army commander for you.

If Mimii save is more readily available, I'll take it, otherwise just the HST zipped file sent to pocus@ageod.net will do for this bug
