3 More Forming/Changing Divison Questions

Mon Jul 02, 2007 3:52 pm

1. How do you remove an unit from a division without dismembering the whole division?

2. Why would the command rating of a General drop when he is used to form a division?

3. I can't seem to add any division to Holmes existing division in the earliest grand campaign. He only has two thousand some men serving under him. Why can't I add another unit? I have looked at the tool tip and I can't seem to figure it out.

Thank you in advance.

1) AFAIK, there is no way to do it other than what you state, i.e. break it up and reform with all units minus the one you want to keep separate. A "detach" button on the Unit info window (that pops up on the right when you click the nato icon) would be a nice feature.

2) Dunno.

3) Seems some units/commanders are limited as to what they can do. Some of my political generals refuse to be division commanders, e.g.

He might be directly attached to a brigade instead of an actual division commander. A brigade with a leader looks like a division, in that it has a silver bar, but it is not an actual division. Try breaking his unit apart. If his bar turns white, that was the problem. If he still has a silver bar, then I don't know what the problem is.

It drops only for one turn.
I think that is mainly done to prevent exploits, maybe it simulates the organizational difficulties to build the needed command structures.

Thank you all. That answers all three. I do wish that there was a way to remove a unit from a division without disassembling it. It does not seem right that we should have to pay the cost to reassemble the division again. Maybe in the future.

Thanks.

You won't pay the cost...

Yeah I thought as you did at first read the rule too, but like Pocus said, you really do NOT have to pay the cost again...as long as you reassemble the division on the same turn you disassemble it. The leader will be eligible to reform the division at no cost, for the rest of the current turn (only). This method allows you to subtract brigades w/o incurring a repeat division-building cost.

Holmes starting unit is not a division, is just a a brigade with a leader (Holmes) embedded. Something you can do with any leader and any brigade at no cost.
Both kind of units have a gray strip but, to tell apart a brigade+leader from a division just look at the unit card on the unit panel.
On the top right of any unit you will sea an NATO icon (cavalry, infantry, artillery...). The division Icon is like an infantry one but bigger and with bolder lines.

Cheers!

Great! Thank you. And Pocus, that is very welcomed news.
