Gifted Commanders + Great Strategist

Tue Jan 19, 2016 5:27 am

The Tool Tips for Great Strategist say
"... +1 ability level, to his stack and subordiantes corps ..."

The Tool Tips for Gifted Commander says
"... an additional +1 ability level to the stack under his command. If in command of an army, subordinate corps also receive this bonus"

From my experince playing the Prussian and Austrian senarios, I knew leaders are very important. For the Grand Campain, I recorded the Senority, Strategic, Offensive, Defensive, and the Leader Traits for all the French Leaders.

I then executed the first turn and compared these values again. The leaders of corps for both the Grande Armee and the Armee d'Italie show an increase in their Strategic, Offensive, and Defensive stats. None of the Leaders in Napoleon's, Lannes's, Massena's or Soult's stacks showed an increase in ability score. I also removed some of the leaders from Napoleon's, Lannes's, Massena's or Soult's stacks and the Leaders ability scores did not change.

It appears to me these leaders are not getting their bonus or the bonus is not being displayed. Which is it?

Also, after the first turn, Murat goes from 4 -2 - 3 to 5 - 5 - 5 while Bernadotte goes from 3 - 2 - 2 to 5 - 5 - 5. Why doe these two leaders get a larger than +1 abiltiy increase?

If a corps or divisional commander is under the command of an army commander the army commander makes a leader check against his stats, if he passes a check it gives a bonus to the leaders below him in the chain of command. That was a terrible run-on sentence. Hopefully you understood what I was trying to say.
It basically means that a high quality army or corps commander makes everyone under them (much) better.

When you have a corps stack selected, in the lower-right corner the Inspection Panel opens. At the top of this is the coprs diamond symbol. The tool-tip of the corps diamond should show you how much that corps commander receives on strategic, offensive, and defensive from its army commander. Values can be both positive and negative.

Thank you for your reply.

This quote has nothing to do with Gifted Commanders + Great Strategist bonuses not being apply or being applyied but not displayed.

Thanks for the great tip!

Do you know if these values change over turns or over distance from the Army Leader.

The bonuses from Napoleon did not appear to change over 4 turns. However, all I did was move the corps closer.
The bonuses from Massena did change. Had a -1,-2,-1 bonus with Gouvion who was 6 areas away from Massena. I moved him closer to Massena and on the second turn of his move, his bonuses went to +0,+2,+1. At that time he was two areas away from Massena. I suspect it has to do with distance but don't know.

Thanks for the info. :)

Of couse I had determined the Corp Commander were getting bonuses because it showed up on their ranking. However, I still can't tell if stack commanders are geting the bonuses that both Great Stratigest and Gifted Commander say they should get.

As a test I pulled a few Divisions from the Corps of Lannes, Massena, and Soult who all have Gifted Commander and their Strategic, Offense, and Defense abilities did not change. It appears the bonuses are not being given or not being displayed.
