General Longstreet's army of the Mississippi

Sat Jun 30, 2007 3:29 pm

Course of events in my game lead to the rise of Gen. Longstreet to 3 stars ... So I removed him from the ANV and send him to Missouri. I had pledged to myself that I would get Longstreet 2 corps with about 1000 combat strength to defend Missouri and if possible even capture the whole state. I knew Longstreet would be great to hold the Union above the Missouri river.

Eventually Longstreet captured the whole state of Missouri.

Unfortunately his army was called "army of the Mississippi'. Longstreet remained all of the time in the city North East above Springfield - don't recall it's name - but that's territory of MO and very close to the Missourri river.

:tournepas can this be solved ?

I don't see this as much of a problem. HQ names are based on sequence, and regionality. Plus, I really don't think that there ever was an "Army of Missouri".

The town you are thinking of is probably Rolla.

Sherman led the Army of the Tennessee thru Georgia, to the sea, then into South Carolina, North Carolina...

And it was the Army of the Tennessee, the whole time.

Pretty close historically, actually...

After the fall of Forts Henry and Donelson in 1862, the Confederate's western defenses were shattered. To prevent the potential loss of the Mississippi River a two pronged counter-stroke was attempted. One prong ended in defeat at Shiloh and the other (which was to attempt to capture Missouri and St. Louis), lead by Confederate Gen. Earl Van Dorn ended in defeat at the Battle of Pea Ridge. Van Dorn's army was named "The Army of the Trans-Mississippi."

come one - these argumentations are all based on what happened in "1861-1865". That's totally beyond my point. As commander of the CSA - I decide that I set up an army in Missouri. And want to defend that territory and eventually conquer it totally. It has nothing to do with the Mississipi. By the way, my army of the Tenessee has "salvaged" Mississipi.

Why should the army be called army of Mississippi. Perhaps it could have been called "army somewhere north of Arkansas" or "army of the big river" or "army of the wet river".

There's not one logical reason it should be called "army of Mississippi". Longstreet is sitting at the banks of the Missouri ! In Missiourri ...

Can't we alter the names ourselves ? Like in Fof ? That would solve the problem ...

Actually I'm a bit astonished about Pocus's reply there, maybe he meant there is no way to change names in game. But you can definitely edit the save game files to achieve the same results.

Attached an example that I quickly created.

Where are the files found whereby one can edit what HQs form what armies, based on regions, in the game data files???

this is the gamedata\factions directory. The problem with army names is that they are to be listed there too, otherwise you can have side effects.
