Losing experience after big losses

Mon Dec 28, 2015 11:37 pm

In AGEOD game, can a unit lose experience, because it has lost a lot of men ?
The manual doesn't mention this case.

Actually we have to look at elements and not units. Units can have many elements, each with their own unique eXperience Point (XP) and eXperience Level (EL) ratings.

Leaders can; non-leader elements cannot, unless I'm terribly mistaken.

Non-leader elements have a 0.5 eXperience Points (XP) gain coefficient for hits they score--ie. 0.5 XP per hit--, but I don't think they lose any XP when hits are scored against them.

With leaders this is much more complex; they look at hits scored by and against their sub-elements. Viewing their real sub-element XP gain, and hypothetical sub-element XP loss, they factor in their own gain and loss coefficients: 0.1 leader-XP-gain-coefficient and 0.05 leader-XP-loss-coefficient.

There used to be a difference between division/brigade commanders and corps/army commanders, but I can't find an indication of this still being the case.

Units can also lose XP when they receive replacements, but it's at a rather low rate.

Elements which train-up have a large chance of losing most of their XP. There is a small chance each turn that an element trains-up to the next higher element quality. Their current XP is factored into this probability; the higher their XP, the higher the chance of training-up.

I think veteran elements that sustain heavy casualties lose experience when they are reinfoced back to full health as they absorb inexperienced "hits".
At least that is my impresion after years playing Ageod games. But maybe it's just me imagining things ;)

Regarding units they will definetely lose experience when they get some of it's elements completely destroyed as when they regain the missing element it will come with zero experience.

That's in my second to last paragraph.

Units do not have XP; only elements have them. If by some fluke a 2 element brigade has one of its elements completely destroyed, but the other takes no damage at all, the undamaged element will lose no XP what so ever and gain only for the hit it itself scored.
