Small things I want (Selfish post)

Thu Dec 24, 2015 5:48 am

After playing for a few days, this is a list of small things I want:

1- The ability to detach a small garrison when you take a city, this was a feature of the last Napoleon game but never returned in any form in any AGEOD game AFAIK, don't know why, it was useful, maybe there´s a good reason it got cut
2- Some kind of indicator as how the relation with other countries changes from turn to turn, maybe just a small up or down arrow with a number at the side
3- Some kind of alert that you have diplomatic proposals pending, I forgot to check this all the time, maybe just some small banner at the top of the screen
4- In the officer promotion screen, some information about what formation each officer is currently commanding, there are tons of officers in this game
5- Some clarification about a unit nationality, sometimes it gets a small circle like the abilities of officers, sometimes the NATO icon in the unit detail screen appears foreign, sometimes the flag is of another nation, sometimes the background color of the unit is different, what prevails?

It´s obvious from this list that i´m getting old and forgetful :p apy: And probably some of this stuff is already there an I couldn´t find it

In any case, great game and I hope it keeps improving

1. Cities of importance and multiple structures can have substantial automatic garrisons that muster to arms when facing an attack. Improving the fortifications or detaching a brigade (maybe one that is battered and in need of refit) are ways to protect it more against raider-size forces.

2. Good idea, but I'd see as more useful a short graph type line arrow beside it covering the past few months, to give a general guide for those who only check diplomacy as needed.

3. It is announced in the messages (the sixth button) every turn. But a little torch or something on the diplomacy button would indeed by good for responses required, new CBs, or also CBs getting near to expiration.

4. Yes indeed. His icon and stats mouseover would be nict too.

5. Yes. Sadly, not everyone will recognize the small flag icons by sight. I'm looking to find some Swiss mercenaries for the officer with the Swiss ability.

4- In the officer promotion screen, some information about what formation each officer is currently commanding, there are tons of officers in this game.

It would also be great if you can see through a tooltip display the information regarding what costs would be associated with promoting the general rather than having to go back to his stack, removing him if he is not in command then hovering over the tooltip to see that there will be a loss of 1 NM and 276 VP and then putting him back in the stack where I found him. I normally only check the most senior of promotion candidates (of the same rank) to see if his promotion would anger someone else.

Question: If you click on the far right arrow on the promotion screen, will it automatically promote the general if he is not in command of a stack or do you still have to remove him from his subordinate command? (This is the spot where the tooltip cost would be useful, IMO).

As far as I can tell, yes, clicking on the arrow will promote the officer, no need to put him out of the stack

And yes, some tip on the cost would be great, there are just to many officer to keep track on who will get angry, I don´t mind the mechanic, which is fine, but right now I´m not following it for the most part, only maybe when it comes to name army commanders

I don't think it's a need for new topic, because I'd like to suggest my "Small things I want" in game.

1. Names for all units (single elements) in game. I think it could be easy just add "Number, Foot Regiment" or something. I dislike those "Line Infantry (Conscripts)" when in fact they are "Line Infantry (Veterans)" after some time :)

2. Names for ships. Could be one huge database for all types of units to pick up the next unused name for new building ship. I really don't care if "Imperieuse" will be big ship of line or small sloop. Just dislike generic "36 gun Frigate" as ship's name.

I hope it can be done without too much hassle.

1) The models represent a single element. The units bring together the elements. There's no way within the current structure to name the elements, unless of course you are up for creating a minimum of 10,000 models, each model with a unique name and then modifying all the units to bring in each model.
2) See #1. A few ships are mentioned by name. That because they are have individual models for them. There's less ships. If you want to create 500+ individual models and then modify the units to bring in the models, I'm sure AGEOD would consider integrating them.

A work based on how CW2 database is made is still in the realm of possibilities, but for a modder.

So how to do it ?
I see directory "Wars of Napoleon\NGC\GameData\Units\" with files like "1001MOLCavalry Brigade 1805.uni" and "Wars of Napoleon\NGC\GameData\Models\" with files like "1004BRUChevaux Legers.mdl".
Units have names in CustomNames = NAME | NAME | NAME
Models do not have "CustomNames =".

Maybe it will be good to add that option? I can write some generic names like "1. Dragoon Regiment" or "1er Regiment" and put them in proper place. Just don't know that "proper place".

My assumption: names like "1. Musketeer Regiment" / "4. Grenadier Regiment" are better than "Line Infantry (Conscripts)".

Hi all - I have been sending a spreadsheet that was from AGEOD to Phil with all these details of various regiments/ships etc. I think its the campaign database. I dont have the game as yet...waiting for a reward :) . However countries I have completed and sent to AGEOD are: Great Britain, Russia, Papal States, France, Bavaria, Brunswick and Spain. I am currently doing Austria and Prussia and part way through. I have all the information and posted it on another thread here when I did the same thing for March of the Eagles which i did a mod for called 'March of the Regiments' on Paradox forums. The Database I am assuming will allow you to replace elements when they are destroyed or built as such I am putting in all the regiments for Prussia before and after their reorganisation in 1809 or whenever it was. Also some units never existed so they are entered with information such as
1º Cazadores de la Guardia|2º Cazadores de la Guardia|3º Cazadores de la Guardia|
etc for Spain for instance. If anyone wants to help me they can PM me with their email and I will send the sheet. Everything seems to be - Currently the scandinavian countries, HRE, Switzerland, German minors, Portugal and some Italian countries are still to be done. There are a range of middle eastern and Caucasian countries but I think one can put some generic title for them.
Also can anyone tell me if USA is in the game?

The other thing is the setup I am doing and told Ageod was Infantry Battalion/cavalry Regiment/Artillery company. EG British Light Infantry:
5/95th Riflemen Regiment|1/43rd Monmouthshire |1/51st 2nd Yorkshire West |1/52nd Oxfordshire |6/95th Riflemen Regiment|7/95th Riflemen Regiment|1/68th Durham |1/71st Highland |1/85th Bucks Volunteers |1/90th Perthshire Volunteers|2/43rd Monmouthshire |2/51st 2nd Yorkshire West |2/52nd Oxfordshire |2/68th Durham |2/71st Highland |2/85th Bucks Volunteers |2/90th Perthshire Volunteers|3/43rd Monmouthshire |3/51st 2nd Yorkshire West |3/52nd Oxfordshire |3/68th Durham |3/71st Highland |3/85th Bucks Volunteers |3/90th Perthshire Volunteers|
These were the historical battalions that were regarded as Light Infantry. As there is a database - possible regiments and battalions have been created - so in this instance there are 3rd battalions where none existed historically.

Things I would like to see:

1. An element could have its history recorded in what battles it fought.
2. An element can capture the flag of another element and have that recorded.
You could then have regimental histories.

Well, that is something! :) I don't think it's doable with elements at all with actual engine. Maybe leaders could be tracked like that (like it was done in HOI2 by Paradox).

There are 7 playable countries in game right now: Great Britain, Russia, France, Spain, Turkey, Austria and Prussia.
I don't think it's necessary to have all named regiments of all existing countries in game. Just the playable ones will be great. The rest can have those generic titles you mentioned about Caucasians.

ok well if those are the playable ones then I will finish up Austria and Prussia soon and move onto Turkey which I hear is a bit of a mystery as to their organization with Janissaries etc. Though i do have information. If you are playing prussia etc can you see the regiments of the other countries? for example would you be able to see what Sweden has?

Yes, mostly during battles. I haven't seen in on campaign map, as most units are grouped in brigades, so it's only brigade/division name that appears in tooltip.

So you can't see the elements in Sweden just the brigade?

In battle screen - you can and see enemies regiments.
In campaign/map screen - you can but most of the time you don't see it. Regiments are inside brigades, and my intelligence officers tell me only brigade name and strength ;)

I have done my sheet based on Infantry Battalions/Cavalry Regiments/Artillery Company. Is the standard infantry element 800 men or 3000 or something?

6-pdr Artillery Battery/Company = 60 Men / 8 Cannon
12-pdr Artillery Battery/Company = 80 Men / 8 Cannon
"Light" Horse Artillery Battery/Company = 40 Men / 16 Horses / 8 Cannon
Horse Artillery Battery/Company = 60 Men / 24 Horses / 8 Cannon
Coastal Artillery Battery/Company = 200 Men / 8 Cannon
Fortress Artillery Battery/Company = 200 Men / 8 Cannon
Seige Artillery Battery/Company = 200 Men / 8 Cannon

I like the names. Historical or ahistorical - it sounds good. You can have up to 200% of historically possible units in game.

I finished Austria and moved onto Prussia and then ran into a problem. The regiments were reorganized in 1808 and therefore the old regiment numbers have different names eg 5th Regiment der Königin Dragoons becomes 5th Dragoner (Brandenburgisches) Regiment. I want to throw open what suggestions should be done:
1. Do we use the historical names even though you might end up with two Dragoon Regiments of the 5th?
2. Do we change the historical numbers so that the 5th (1st Brandenburg) Dragoons becomes something ahistorical like the 15th Dragoons or thereabouts given the number of regiments in existence in 1805? That way you don't get 2 regiments with the same number. This is similar with the infantry, Cuirassiers and Hussars.

First, this thread took a weird turn somewhere...

Second, given that historical names are for flavor only, I say put them all there, two or three 5th regiments are not that big a problem in my opinion, they won't brake any game mechanic

I rather have more historical names with some ahistorical timing than completely made up names, but that is just me

I don´t know if it is possibly to rename units via events to simulate reforms, my guess is not, or that it would involve a huge amount of work including checking if a unit exists, then destroying it, then re creating a new one that most likely won't inherit it`s experience...too much effort
