Division attachments after patch

Wed Dec 16, 2015 9:39 am

I fired up the campaign game as French to play a few turns with the new patch. A couple things jumped out.

The changes to the leader portraits. Divisions now sometimes show the division command, others one of the units. Please standardize this with the leader portrait. Brigades with leaders attached also show the unit rather than the leader portrait after the leader is assigned. I guess this is ok, but I prefer the leader portrait always to be on top. Why the change?

Secondly, I attempted to form a couple divisions and there seems to be a problem/issue with attachments. I formed a division, but could only add one brigade. Even though there is plenty of room for more elements. This happened when trying to form both an infantry division and cavalry division. This was not an issue for me pre-patch. If a division can only hold one brigade, why ever form them? Might as well just attach a leader without wasting the division formation. Is this intentional?

Beware of some special "foreign" brigades that you can't combine with other units at this stage such as the italian dragoons or polish lancers, that might be the issue, otherwise, there could be something in the patch. Could you be more specific as to the units you tried to do that with ?

New-Style Divisions work the same as combining a leader with a brigade; you can only combine one brigade or division-unit with a leader, and portrait of the unit is shown.

Old-Style divisions, where you created a division command and add up to 14 units of up to 17 elements, show the leader's portrait on the unit.

That does not seem to be the case. Even when creating an old style division. For example, Josef Z. (division leader) added Bde Goulu and Bde Herbin. His portrait is not shown, it shows one of the brigades.

This whole issue smacks of a sloppy mess. Some divisions its one way, others its another way. Some leaders are on top, some aren't.

Thanks, you might be correct on that cause of my attachment issue. I will check.

But, that leads to another issue. Why do some foreign troops have a foreign troop icon (makes it easy to tell Corsican troops or Swiss for example) while others such as some Italians don't. You then have to open the unit info bar, and look to see if they are foreign. If it matters in any way that they are foreign, such as for forming divisions or efficiency reduction for being led by leader of different nationality, then put an icon on the front of the unit. Otherwise, if they don't have an icon, we can assume there is nothing special about the unit and its fully integrated with the normal army.
