PR and advertising

Thu Dec 03, 2015 12:54 pm

Al-right first off wish you the best of luck with the release of this game. I own many Ageod titles and know the games are always well supported and improved upon with time. That said however this title is really coming out with a whimper not a great beginning. For such a game with an epic subject matter the game has just not been put out there for people to see or be aware of. It will sell to those that know Ageod but even there the hype has been very poor indeed. I visit Matrix and Ageod regularly to see what's going on yet spent all my Christmas money December 2nd blissfully ignorant of this titles imminent release. That can't be good for your business no doubt I will pick this up at a latter date yet you are missing so much and so many sales through shoddy advertising and PR. You may well need to recruit some volunteers or something just to keep on top of this sort of thing because I find it shameful that a title such as this should be releasing with people doubting that it's happening unsure what's going on and to be truthful ignorant of release. You can make great games but it will avail you little if you don't sell them as a result of poor PR and advertising. Right rant over hope the game does well and sorry still a little miffed I wont be able to pick it up for Christmas.

Indeed. It seems even Thirty Years War had a bit more advertising than this game. As far as I am concerned Civil War and Napoleon are Magna Opera for this company.

Not to pile on since I do hope it's a success....but in the gaming industry fair or not, a quiet release gets people nervous on the potential confidence and readiness level of the release.

This. But honestly the fault is not all in Matrix, Ageod release 2 tutorial videos that show basically nothing . Not any screen or videos of big features like diplomacy, recruiting troops or decisions that i'm looking forward for this game. That why i'm a bit suspicious about it, i hope the lack of advertising and pr is due to a a bad management instead of a real intention to hide some aspect of game that are disapointed or bugged.

And that's the shame of it all...it could turn out to be the game of the year but just leaves open speculation....but at this point we'll know either way in a few hours :)

Actually we have released 5 videos and there is another one coming in a few hours. The first two videos might be nothing for you for veterans, as they double as tutorial/walkthrough, but the game has really a lot of new stuff. Have you checked the product page for example, you'll see there is nothing to be ashamed about!

http://www.ageod.com/products/593/details/Wars.of.Napoleon

and for the lazy:

Scenarios

  • Grand Campaign 1805-1815 with 2 starting dates (January & August)
  • Austerlitz Campaign 1805
  • Jena Campaign 1806-1807
  • Waterloo Scenario June 1815
Military

  • Create armies and corps and manage how they support each other
  • Lead mighty fleets of ships that can intercept, bombard, and disembark troops.
  • Check your supply network, create depots, forage the land while you march or pillage the enemy regions if the rest fails.
  • Build new units with a brand new system of ‘create and gather’ system.
  • Two set of uniforms for most soldiers depending on army reforms. More than 300 different uniforms from accurate sources, and over 400 portraits of generals redone from historical paintings and sources.
  • Numerous historical options, including reforming your nation and army the way you want.
  • New interface to promote your generals or see the hierarchy of your army more easily.
  • You can guide your allies, if they are AI nations, so you get the most out of them.
  • New history screen where you can check the evolution of your army and the army of your enemies.
  • Form or disband divisions and appoint generals to lead them.
  • Promote generals but beware of the political support of some, if they are bypassed in favour of young promising officers.
  • Lead expeditionary forces assisted by allies and minor nations.
  • Use special orders like forced march, build redoubts, disband units.
  • Muster partisans and levy special emergency troops.
Political

  • Play one among seven major nations: France, Great Britain, Prussia, Russia, Austria, Spain, and Ottoman Empire.
  • Diplomacy with casus-belli, coalitions, defensive treaty, passage rights and more.
  • Send monetary help, gain access to special units and dozens of historical options completely customizable for the major nations.
  • Draft your population, use smugglers, develop your territories and many more decision cards.
  • Large chain of events with multiple possibilities dealing with the insurrections in Spain or special peace treaties.
  • Custom faction modifiers that give your nation a specific feel (e.g. as France, reward your talented generals with The Légion d’Honneur)
  • Handle your resources carefully, like money, guns and horses. Each country has strengths and weaknesses.
  • Form or disband satellite nations.
  • France and Great Britain can form super alliances against one another.
  • As France or Great Britain, try to get the upper hand in the Continental Blockade.
Special Features

  • "What if?” options that you can enable or disable, to shape the course of the war in line with your strategy (e.g. Ensure that The United States sides with France against Great Britain in 1812).
  • A very large map of Europe with over 4,000 regions and also special areas like the West Indies, North America, Persia and India.

I thought the same. That guy is really passionate about Grand Strategy and Paradox Games usually get alot of coverage on RPS so AGEOD might aswell .
They also have a big audience. Certainly can´t hurt to try!

Having bought the game today and played for a few hours, I just want to mention that the concerns some folks mentioned here that the game is somehow buggy or not ready couldn't be further from the truth.

This is a great game and as is typical for AGEOD, seems very well polished. It's immensely enjoyable straight out of the box and I have no doubt that it'll only improve with time and a few patches. Anyhow, if you were holding off buying because of any of the concerns mentioned here, then all I can say is that you're missing out!

I have to completely agree! My first impressions of the game are that is is an incredible product. The integration of such a HUGE play space, with a VERY extensive recruitment list, an abstracted economy, battle formation selection before major battles, army reforms, regional play cards (including the simulation of blockades and blockade running!!!), naval warfare, abstracted colonial warfare, diplomacy, and so many options to customize the size of unit pools and historical "what ifs"....it's just genius. It has to be the best operational Napoleonic video game ever made. It's exactly what I knew it could be when you guys had the time and inclination to make it, after March of the Eagles was so disappointing. Thank you SO much for your work. I will play it for years to come, and I will buy every DLC you may create for it, on the day it comes out. And, finally (I'm gushing like a school girl, I know...) thank you so much for such a VERY reasonable release price.

Fantastic work, to all involved. It's why AGEOD continues to occupy a place of its own.

MJ
