NM win conditions

Sat Oct 31, 2015 4:09 am

I am beginning to worry that my old nemesis, NM win, may happen in my CW2 campaign as the Union. It is Jan 1863 and the NM difference is 157 to 30. Does anyone know if the CSA automatically loses at 25 NM like the Union, or (hopefully) is it more like 0 or 5 NM at this stage in the game?

This is my first game with CW2 and the CSA is still putting up a decent fight. They still have good PWR left (52) with two large forces of 3000+ in Virginia and North Carolina so I'm hoping the game lasts quite a bit more as my only naval invasion so far has been New Hannover, NC and I haven't even touched New Orleans.

Just wondering.

No need to reply. After a typically dull early Jan '63 turn resolution where there were only 2 or 3 skirmishes with no NM change, no message that an historical event happened that caused a 10 point NM loss for the CSA, I received a major victory notice because the CSA only had 20 NM. Ironically, they were still leading by about 300 VP and even gaining more VP's per turn (excepting battles) by 57 to 51!

I am supposing that the Emancipation Proclamation event which fired in early Jan '63 must have caused the 10 point NM drop. Oddly, I could have sworn that event fired in Summer of '62 after the capture of Fayetteville, Arkansas.

If you are playing the Union and have 157 NM vs. the CSA's 30 NM, then come spring time you ought to be able to roll over much of their opposition.

I believe the standard losing NM level for the CSA is <= 25 NM until November '64, when it goes up to <= 40 NM.

I loaded the game as the CSA and noticed they had -10 NM from options and events. Unfortunately, there were no red notices that would explain how that happened. I did notice the AI oddly chose at 30 NM to pick the option that would raise/lower foreign entry by 15. I rechecked the Union side and noticed that would entail a 7 NM loss, so probably for the CSA it was a 10 NM loss? This was frankly, a stupid time to choose that option. Foreign entry was around 4 on the Union side on the prior turn and it was pretty low on the CSA side too. Why in the world would the AI pick this option that effectively would make them lose the game? This needs to be fixed and I'll mention it in the how to make CW2 better threads.

I then scrolled through the CSA units and noticed unusual things that I'll also put in that thread.

the AI always seems to pick the foreign intervention options, which always re-populate in January.

If you want to extend the game as the Union, keep fighting losing battles in Virginia. Ramming Burnsides at Fredricksburg once a month, while Sherman rampages through the West can be quite fun.

I wouldn't want to extend the game because once I'm declared the winner the fun goes out of it for me. As for purposely losing games/battles? I'll leave that to the AI. I've decided to play the CSA because the USA was way, way too easy, and from the other civil war games I've played, I feel the USA is overpowered from the start. I do hope that the developers alter the parameters that the AI uses to pick that option; foreign intervention should only be played when it can make a difference.
