Confederate Victory Conditions
How about a chance for the South? I know that AGEOD loves it's history. Though "A Comparison With History Victory Condition for Player Interest." Right now you have the sort of feeling as the CSA like you're climbing Mount Everest in trying to win the game. Simply put that if you do not win with an early quick KO...you probably will have issues winning against a consistent Union opponent.(and if not the Union opponent is still learning how to play)

Fully agree with you, currently the VP system is not working correctly.
Some times ago I was working on a way to compare your VP with the historical outcome but for this I need the date when each objective town fell historically under Union control...pretty tedious job and don't know if I will ever finish it

I think there are a couple of basic questions you have to answer first before you can asses if VP's are working or to decide how they should be implemented.
- Should they only have meaning at the end of a scenario which ran its full length without a Sudden-Death results?
- Should VP's at all times during a scenario measure each sides success? (This would be a great advantage for tournaments which are set to end after a certain number of turns or on a certain game-date. Then if done right, the player with the most VP's could truly be considered the winner.)
Not even considering tournaments, I believe the later should be the case; but it currently is not.

Hey, Orso, you missed a pretty crucial 's' there... 
I agree that VP's are skewed to heavily in favor of the Union. They only have to capture a few objective cities to tip the balance. Cities that don't even really matter too much.
Though, I have always felt that if the Union does not achieve a major victory then the Confederacy wins regardless of what the game tries to tell me.

I played as south [ though easy supply] and whipped the north against ai. Than played the north [ regular supply] and lost on morale. I am playing again as south [ since 1.06] with hardest settings and whipping the north. Invading and protecting supply is hard . I think it should be uphill fight as south, to reflect historical reality. I would not play game if they had it even balanced. If you simply meant make it easier for the south to earn vp's to "win" that would be different. However and I have never played a human online, but to me from playing as both sides so far it seems strongly to favor the south to win and win easy.

while so far i disagree with op and would say the game is much to easy as south, I also have to admit to only playing ai and on only my third full game against ai. Knowing you guys have more experience and assuming it is to easy as north, than maybe a simple solution would be to have the south start with more vp's? keep the vp for each place the same, just more ground to cover for the north.

If you make it to 1866, but you get your butt kicked along the way: Congratulations, you are now an independent country. You lost Kentucky and Maryland and West Virginia and Arizona and New Mexico and Oklahoma and Missouri and Eastern Tennessee and Delmarva and your currency is worthless and your economy is dysfunctional... but the Confederate States of America has won independence!

VPs and territorial control are not the only Judge in victory. The sliding NM% is actually to my mind quite essential as well. In PBEM, not so much unfortunately!
