Leader Failure in Battle

Sat Jun 06, 2015 6:01 pm

Is there a problem here, or was it a failure by my general?

I had a battle were 3 forces were to converge on one location. (Not smart, I know)

Two forces made it and were bloodily repulsed; one force did not complete the march or join the attack.

The force that failed was under Magruder, 3-2-3, and contained 2 divisions. Here's what's strange: the map plot showed him taking 10 days to reach the battlefield. But after the turn was run, it still showed him in his starting area with 5 days remaining to complete the original move.

Magruder was under blue/orange orders, at 100% cohesion, and had a brown envelope.

No message appeared in the display to say he had been delayed.

My game version is 1.06.

Is there a way to find out what happened?

Did you have Magruder intercepting one of those forces or was he targeted on the region?

After trying a number of times to make Magruder join the Army of the Potomac, I gave up, cleared his orders and reissued them using Control F4 to target the Leesburg and only Leesburg.

I knew this would result in wave attacks, but decided to pay the price.

For some reason the move was delayed.

Hmm, this scenario is sounding more and more familiar.

So you didn't see any message but Magruder was delayed anyway. Does Magruder's force have any additional hanger ons? Some unit or general that joined the stack late and reset the movement? I can't remember where Magruder was when the movement started, but if he was using rail, he could've been the victim of a loss of railroad capacity if you were bumping up against that limit. I don't know what your capacity is or how close you were to maxing it out, but I'd assume that Beauregard's army would've sucked up a good portion of your potential. Other than that, I've got nothing.

He was coming from Manassas wasn't he? I'd assume then that any loss of rail wouldn't have played a part.

Magruder was at Manassas, one area south of Leesburg his target.

No rail movement was involved, just marching, and Magruder did not have any loose units other than a supply wagon.

Mr. Arrow, my idea is here that you may have a bug of General Activity. That or weather. That or another bug altogether. The ledger that sets expected time of delivery is always possibly off on the March to me. Although in this case 10 days is a great deal of time. I will sometimes have units arrive in a territory and disengage and exit the territory if they see a force and their posture is set or the General makes his own choice/whatever the game settings are set to.

Rail is the only dead certain arrival though as far as I usually note. March is always given to just a day or two at most 3 off.. So yours is odd. What is General Activation Setting?

P.S. A leader set with a force march order I have played with it will get a 3 day give or take... It's a bit confusing.
