Restore previous turns

Thu Apr 23, 2015 2:42 pm

So the manual says that you "have the option to restore the 24 previous turns of any saved game."
I recently tried going back 12+ turns, and could only restore the previous 7 turns.
Am I doing something wrong? Is the manual [again] wrong?

And for future reference, is there a way to save a game with a new name, so that you can branch off one game into two saved-game files?

I'm asking, because I tried an experiment where I controlled both sides until the spring of '64, with 200% times recruits, just to see what would happen with massive armies and a complete build out of industry and economy. I won with the CSA, and was attempting to go back to the start of the fighting and win as the US. And I couldn't :(

Some random things I learned from that experiment, which might be useful for the general knowledge base of the forum:

The South's economy at full build, with 200% more ships than available in standard, with no blockade, actually makes MORE money per turn than the north. They fall way behind in troops while spending two years building ships, but its interesting.

The North can 100% blockade the third blockade box/shipping box. We've argued on here about the south putting transports in the shipping box to make money. The north can 100% blockade this box.

Northern brigs have minimal returns in shipping box. If you ever wondered whether the transport capacity of brigs adds to the total return from the shipping box, yes and no. A four turn build of nothing but northern brigs yielded a 500 power stack. Putting those in the shipping box increased the total return from 152 $+WS to 156. That's a negligible return, but as noted above, it shut off the flow of supplies to the south from their transports.

Massive armies equals massive NM battles. Within the first two turns after starting the fighting in spring of '64, I had THREE battles that resulted in 7 NM swings. Plus a number of smaller 1 point battles. The war was over before any major geography changed hands.

Under options in the system tab is a sliding bar where you can change how many turns back you actually want to save. I don't know what the max was for AACW, but it seems like the range for CW2 is 3-12 turns. You could try going into the save folder yourself and manually copying the file in question and then either renaming it or putting it elsewhere for safekeeping. I've never tried it, but I'd assume it should work.
