How do you win?

Reached January 65 have lost most of Missouri but have taken all of Kentucky invading the north in both main theatres, hammering Grant and co yet Lincoln was re-elected. I even won a huge ironclad engagement on the Mississippi. How does the CSA win?

You win my getting your NM high (or the Union's low) - I think hit F9 to bring up the requirements. Otherwise the game ends in Dec 65 and whoever has the most VPs wins (either stalemate, or or various victories). Again, hit F9 to see how many VPs you have compared and the Union has.

I appear to be losing by 10VPs but I have 132MPs and they have only 90. So with only a year to go I have to win by VPs even though I hold northern cities and are cuffing them all over the place?

For the game engine to call it a win. Every person is different, but most I know say that if you avoid a defeat as the CSA, you have won. The problem is the VPs are very weighted towards the Union (in easily captured by the union areas). It's almost impossible to get a victory by VPs as the CSA.

I have no problem winning on VP as the CSA but I do agree the way VP is done in the game seems to favour the Union. I mainly try to take and keep enough cities to have a marginal VP lead. I strike early at the start of the war and by the time the Union starts rolling, I have caused more casualties than the Union. Defence is golden and makes the Union pay for invading. If you keep on winning a few big battles you'll gain more VP
