AI CSA - Aggressiveness Game Option?

Sun Nov 30, 2014 5:24 pm

After playing as the USA against the AI CSA a number of times on the normal aggressiveness option setting with each difficulty option setting; I have found that the AI CSA makes it easy for me as the USA to kill their troops at a 3/2 ratio overall in my favor and win the war via attrition as the CSA does not have the manpower to keep up. The AI CSA does this by attacking North regularly; even in winter, allowing me to cut them off and inflect high loses, etc.

My question is; based on this behavior, wouldn't it be more difficult to defeat the AI CSA if I selected the low aggressiveness game option? Would doing this result in the AI CSA stopping it's suicide runs into the North and other risky moves that have limited value? I do not want to specifically play against a AI CSA Turtle; yet I expect that type of play would be harder to defeat?

What is your experience and opinion?

Thank you!

I've had the exact same experience. I've tried dropping it to low and it seems to make things a bit too static. I didn't do a great deal of playing at low, so it might not have a valid test. I'm currently keeping it at normal and reducing the activation bonus to 0. That seems to have reduced the kamikaze attacks. That's the settings I'm using for my Let's Learn videos.

Try changing the value that determines how far the AI can see (I'm blanking on what its called)

When I first started, I had that set to "high", and the CSA would see I wasn't garrisoning Ohio, and death march through the mountains and winter to occupy an undefended Columbus, Cleveland, Indianapolis, etc.
I set it to "low" in future games, and the CSA did things that made sense, like try to beat the army in front of them.

It's the AI Detection Bonus. If you don't want Athena to be going crazy after targets far, far behind the front lines don't set it to more than just a slight advantage.
